Take two towels. wrong sides together
Mark top at half point, one quarter point and three quarter point.
Stitch from the one quarter point to the edge
Then turn inside out and right sides together
go down about seven inches and stitch to about four inches from the bottom.
Turn right side out
It's a beach cover up. Seriously my grandmother helped me pin and stitch this project when I was five.
We used two hand towels and I wore it till it fell apart.
Think about it Two beach towels and with a ribbon belt you can wear it most of the day.
For the childs hand towel cover up you sew the same neck hole but with the fringed edges on a hand towel, you can stitch from the neck to about two inches from the outer edge making a shoulder fitting line that makes the cover up more fringy and cute on a kid.
Also.............cut a wash cloth in half diagonally and hem the long edge. Right side wash cloth sewn to the wrong side of a matching towel on both edges, and when you turn the wash cloth over, you have a baby bath towel.
Take a place mat and flod it into thirds.
fold one flap up and sew the seams on both sides to create a purse. Turn right side out, fold flap down and add a snap or velcro spot and you have a new clutch purse, you can add a ribbon shoulder strap.

an aline skirt that only contains two pieces the front and the back and it would have you do 2 solid seams up each side to join the front and the back and then the fold for the hem on the bottom and the the fold on the top for elastic to be inserted. The other would be a pair of pants or capris. My first sewing project was a shorts outfit the ones that are the top and the bottom all in one piece. They were big in the early 80's. My mom had me make it. It had to have snaps and a interface lining. A little harder for a beginner but the skirt was a cinch in comparison. The also have patterns now that say pardon the wording but this is wha they say. Patterns for dummies. Simplicity also does some that say easy or beginner ones. If you go to the site http://www.sewingpatterns.com you can look up all the patterns by the different companys like simplicity, mccalls and so on and it will give you a chance to look at them before going to the store to buy them. Ebay is also a great source for patterns. Hope this helps

i take textiles gcse and the best thing to start of with is making a purse: 1) purchase some fabric 2) cut out a rectangle the size you want but add on 5cm for seam allowance 3) cut out another piece double the size and add on 5cm 4) pin them so they are back to front 5) sew up the two edges up to the top of the smaller triangle 6) push it through so it is the right way round 7) add a button to the flap at the top (hand sew) 8) ad a piece of ribbon on the bottom, so it fits nicely around the button and is secure 9) you can add any other detail or decoration you want :) i made this in year 7 :) xx

Pillows, skirts with elastic waistband, pants or shorts with elastic waist. When I made my first pair of pants I wanted to wear them to school everyday! But alas my mother won that one. A jumper would be easy also, it has 4 parts to it.

When I first started sewing, I tried putting the needle through the first layer of my skin. It's really good precision practice.
