The only reason he may change is because he's not around her that much or he got some useful help or she is flat out lying. My x planely told me his x was strong as hell but he hit her any way. I take that as an insult and I dont care how strong you are you dont have to be week to be hit by a man.

She should not boast. If she is with an abusive man, then she cannot cure him.
Let her continue to IMAGINE that there was something the matter with those other two women (a shortcoming that she does not have) that caused them to be hit.

Why didn't you ask "Why do women hit their husbands"? A recent Univ. of Chicago study at hospital emergency rooms suggested that women who were in the hospital for spousal abuse, in fact, admitted that when they had been in an argument with their spouse, that they, the women, had initiated the violence but they "didn't know he would hit them back". Also, a recent study found that among teenagers the girls initiated the violence almost 2/3 of the time. However, in our society and culture, we deny that women hurt men, but glorify the victimization of women. Maybe this entire thing needs to be re-thought ... something like, never use violence at all.

There are many possible reasons:
(1) They were abused when they were younger. It is an accepted/learned behavior from childhood.
(2) Anger control issues
(3) Insecurity/control issues-can't control anything else in his life so he MUST control her!
Regardless of the reason, there is NO EXCUSE for physical abuse by either party.
