The best vacuums in the world won't suck or kill dustmites. To truly get rid of them, you need a Vapor Steam cleaner. I got one from Vapor Steam Products out of Jupiter Florida and they come with a bunch of attachments that will clean everything using water only. No need for any cleaning agents. They look like canister vacuums and will do hardwood and tile floors, bathrooms, windows, rugs, mattresses, etc. They aren't really vacuums, so after you use it on the mattress or carpet, it will kill the mites and bring them to the surface (pretty gross when you look at it closely), but then they are truly dead and you can vacuum them up. The reason the vapor steam works is because the heat of the water gets to 300 degrees, plus they come with a pressure gage (up to 65 psi) that pushes everything to the surface. If you have allergies, you will see a big difference. Cost is about $400 and well worth it.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum with a hepa filter. Vac everything you can think of and dust with a damp cloth it will trap the dust. There is also a spray you can buy at the grocery store, it is new and i don't know what it is called.

The biggest source of dust is the electic dryer. Dry clothes as much as possible outside on a line. If you have too, use a line inside the basement.
