Don't get me wrong, I like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots, but I in no way think they're classic rock.
Fonzie T, you worked at Q104.3? cool....

probably they want a 'younger' audience-the Advertisers be it radio/tv or movie generally want the 16-35 age bracket-sometimes it goes up to age 45 but the key "demo' audience they seek is 18-40- 'classic rock" or even oldies are geared towards the UNDER 45 age group-not the OVER 45's

there was recently an piece in a seattle newspaper about how the "oldies" stations are playing little to no late 50's/early 60's rock and even cutting mid to late 60's and adding more mid to 70's/ early 80's/ and sometime early 90's--

Example : let's take the Led Zepplin classic "Whole Lotta Love"- that came out in 1970- 37 yrs ago--say you were 15 when that came out that makes you 52 yrs old-and Way over the "target" age the station wants to attract- so they play more Nivana and Pearl Jam- attracting a Younger audience

remember it's Always about the $$$$$$$ and what the Advertisers who pay the Bills for radio/tv want

Our station does stuff like that too... The dude who I sent a request into emailed me back saying "That's not classic rock, that's sh**" (the song was "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister) They played MCR once... They lost a lot of listeners... If they play Katy Perry, I won't be listening to them ever again. Edit-- I think I'm the only person who can't find another Classic Rock station. Living in Alberta, all the stations are country. So getting a new classic rock station means I would have to pay for it...

I listen to Q104.3 too & I used to work at a classic rock station myself. It's not unusual to hear *some* more recent rock mixed w/ the classics.

& to be honest, I like Nirvana & some PJ.

*Greenday* seems a bit suspect on that station to me though....

EDIT:

Never worked at 104. I was at a station in Conn.

My classic rock stations have become talk shows. Now that I am 16 and driving I always have a cd case in the car with me.

I'm glad mine haven't started that. The most recent stuff our Classic Rock station plays is Metallica (1983-1988 Metallica not the 90's stuff).
