USA Today: Did Sandy Berger 'Steal' Secret Docs? We're Debating That Still
You know, it seems pretty cut-and-dried to me. Stuffing secret documents down your pants and removing them from a secure room in a federal facility, that constitutes stealing.
USA Today's "On Deadline" blog isn't sure, though. (bold/italics are USA Today's):
Sandy Berger, the national security adviser under former President Clinton, was disbarred yesterday in the District of Columbia.
The Washington Post says Berger agreed last month to give up his law license in order to avoid a prolonged investigation that grew out of his conviction in 2005 of removing classified documents from the National Archives.

In order to avoid a prolonged investigation?! Why are they still covering this up? Why is he still getting away with his crime? How does he slip away? Why, why, why?! Doesn't anyone work out there? He stuffed his pants and socks. Ludicrous. How much dirtier does this have to get? Why is he above the law?! What do we do to stop him and his ilk?
Edit: I just found out that Burglar gave up his attorney's liscense so the bar association doesn't investigate him. WE could still investigate him. The bar won't.

If you don't call stuffing Library of Congress documents in his socks and down his pants stealing while the 9/11 Commission was investigating Clinton administration national security policies and removing those documents with the intent that the Commission would not be able to read them stealing, then no, he is not guilty of stealing secret docs.
To the guy above me, Sandy Berger has not been the NSA since 2001, dude, when Clinton left office. He was replaced by Condoleeza Rice, and the NSA is currently Stephen Hadley. Berger was not the NSA when he stole the documents.

Yes. I do not think the deal he made on giving up his law license was enough punishment either. Granted he will lose a lot of money from not being able to practice law but, he can always be a legal consultant and sit on legal advisory boards for corporations. I consider it a slap on the wrist. He needs to share a cell with Scooter. As an American citizen, I had any crooked dealings by politicians regardless of what party they belong to.

Yes he stole sensitive documents out of the National Archive. He admitted to taking them after lying several times to investigators. Some how they "accidentally" fell down his pants. He should be in jail.

Did he? What is the debate? He admitted it after being caught redhanded. The real question is why was he not tried, convicted, and jailed? The other question is what documentation did he steal and why did he destroy it?

It's shocking that they're letting somebody like that go, and yet we can't even manage to let our own soldiers out of prison for something that was their job to do. Sandy Berger ought to be severly punished for what he did, and be locked up forever. It just shows you that our Justice system is all warped now.
