Mass murders of a specific group.
(The Holocaust was a genocide of every group of people who didn't fit Hitler's perfect Aryan, for example. My Russian and Ukrainian ancestors, the Polish, gypsies, definitely the jews...he was a physchopath.)

The dictionary defines genocide as the "attempted extermination of the Jews"since that was the event that gave rise to the term. Since then ,it has been expanded to apply to any situation in which one group tries to wipe out another on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, and any number of excuses that the human race has used to justify "man's inhumanity to his fellow man".

The Hmong people who live in Laos are getting killed like animals by the Lao and Vietnamese communist because they took the U.S.'s side back during the Vietnam War.
