Insist you put the toilet seat back down? Don't you guys look before you sit? I have no problem with it. I have a wife and two daughters. I'm just curious of other opinions.

Like all guys I like the toilet seat up for obvious reasons. However like most guys the women want it left down. I guess one reason we like it to stay up is because we don't like to have to take that extra step of lifting it especially when we're in a hurry. Similarly, the ladies don't like to take the extra step of dropping it when they are in a hurry.

However, in terms of habits, I will sometimes go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I don't like to turn on a light when I do that, this hurts the eyes and leaves you having to adjust again to the dark. So I make the trip in the dark. Because of that I also can't aim of course so I find it simpler to just sit.

Well, one night I learned why the ladies like the seat down. That night for some reason I never recalled, the seat was up. Knowing that it's always down I didn't look and promptly sat down only to fall all the way in. That was a bit of a shocker of course to say nothing of a cold wet experience too.

From that day on I've made it a habit of always puting the seat down when I'm done. It keeps the peace in the house and prevents me from bruising my dignity, and sometimes other things, in the middle of the night. With one single standard in the house there's never any confusion about what needs to be done by each user.

By and large, women only have one option for how they are going to use the toilet-sitting on it. (the hover method is generally reserved for public toilets) men, on the other hand, have two options.

Here are the two reasons why I want the toilet seat down.

1. Sometimes I'm rather in a hurry, and falling in because some man didn't put it down doesn't make my day any better.

2. There are a great deal of men who can't pee on the broad side of a barn their aim is so bad, and I don't want to get anywhere near their pee splash. That's gross.

The flip side of this for the men is to never put the toilet seat up, which believe me, is even worse than not putting it down, because of reason #2.

Out of respect for a girl or woman, the men should always put the toilet seat back down, the way they found it when they went into the bathroom in the first place!

Imagine THIS: It's 4:07 AM on the lighted digital clock in your bedroom- & you're a woman who needs to get up & go to the bathroom. You don't want to wake your "significant other" by turning on the light (he's gotta get up in 2 hours to go to work), so you quietly make your way through the dark room &- into the bathroom- where you go to sit down on the toilet that your guy LAST used... ... GET the "picture"? I'm surprised your wife & daughters haven't "drawn it" 20 times- already!

Personally I don't care if it is up or down. I am capable of putting the seat back down when I am ready to go. I think it is just something else for women to batch about. I am the only woman in my house so I have more to batch about than the toilet seat being left up. I batch about leaving it down and pissing all over the toilet seat.

I have a funny little story. one time my husband didn't put the toilet seat down and I fell in. I was so mad. I jumped up with hurt elbows and a wet bottom. I screamed and ranted for about 10 minutes. after my bath, he said he would never do it again. I'm just glad he listens now and you too.

Don't you have to put it down if you are going #2?

This means the toilet has more use with the seat down. Also, small children need the seat down or they will fall in.

Sorry, but men standing to pee is the minority in the bathroom. So you lose.

My boyfriend refuses to leave it up, simply because he thinks it looks disorderly. The toilet seat is not supposed to be standing up in the first place. The lift should only be temporary.

As for me, I don't want to touch the under part of the toilet seat, every time I want to sit down.

We don't look b/c we don't face the toilet to pee.

I always look as I enter the bathroom anyway. If you are married and have any male children in your home, it should be automatic to look before you sit. Never assume the seat will always be down.

Women should also put the top lid down. It just looks gross to walk in and see the end of the toilet. How bout this...Just Do It! Choose your battles. Is it really worth it?
