You would weigh less on the moon b/c the moon has less mass, causing it to also have less gravity. The moon has 1/6th the gravity of the Earth, so if you weighed 60 pounds on earth, you'd weigh only 10 pounds on the moon.

The gravity of the moon is about one-sixth of the earth. If you want to know what you would weigh on the moon, divide your weight by six. A 180 pound man would weigh 30 pounds on the moon.

The moon was 'made-up' from left over materials set into space by a collision between earth and an asteroid. Because of this it is made differently than earth in very important ways. The moon is not as 'solid' as earth; causing it to have less gravitational force on its occupants. There is no metallic core as earth has.

The earth is more massive than the moon, so there is more gravity pulling you down, thus a person will weigh more on the earth than they will on the moon, even though the person's mass is the same.
(It's not based on the atmosphere.)

Because gravity on the moon is not as strong as it is here on earth. Therefore, you would weigh less.

you weigh less on the moon because there is less gravity... It is gravity that pulls us to the earth. When there is less gravity, you are not pulled to the surface as hard so the scale would read a smaller number.

Your weight is a function of both your mass and gravity. The earth, due to its significantly larger size, has a greater gravitational force on you (when you are on earth) than the moon would have. Thus, you weight more on earth than on the moon. Your mass though remains the same.

moon has no atmosphere- therefore very little gravity.
earth has atmosphere- there is more gravity.
gravity pushes down on you to make you weigh what you do
example- if you weigh 100 lbs on earth you would weigh dramitcally less on the moon because of the lack of gravity.
hope i helped!
