That would be the Black Sox scandal year. Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago White Sox.
No MVP award was given in those days.

You are refering to the year the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Chicago White Sox and spawned the Black Sox scandal. While no MVP was voted for the series it very easily could have been "Shoeless" Joseph Jefferson Jackson. He played in all 8 games (the Series was best 5 out of 9 then), hit the series' only home run. Had a .375 batting average on 12 hits, a perfect fielding percentage, a walk, three doubles and 6 RBI.
Eight players were drummed out of the sport, banned for life, due to the scandal which alleged members of the team had accepted bribes to throw the series. None of this was ever proved in a court of law but the banishments happened none-the-less because bribery was rampant in the big leagues and the new commissioner Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis had to make an example in order to clean up the game. Jackson, who was illiterate, signed an affidavit admitting to the bribe but his numbers clearly show that if he did indeed take money to throw the series he reneged on the agreement
