If I where to answer your question just as it was stated, the answer would be NEVER. But if your question was when will Quad core be the standard, the answer is sooner than you think.

Intel already has quad core processors and AMD is slated to release theirs in Quarter 3 of this year. You will start to see the high end machines come with them, and then slowly but surely they will start to show up in Home PCs. The next processor war will be between Intel's Quad and AMD's quad. Prices will get lower and lower until everyone can afford them. AMD won the battle on Dual core Processors, but lost the war when the Core 2 Duo came out, and retails for hundreds less than AMDs FX series, and seriously out performs them. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens again, but I digress.

Believe it or not, Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600 Retails for $560 right now, but sources say that in late July the price will drop to just $260 dollars which is only 40 dollars more than the dual Core 2 Duo E6600. I would say that you will see Quad core processors make a strong push next year, and by 2009, 80% or more of computers sold will have a quad core processor.

I'm getting mine in July =)

Hope this helps.

Way too soon. First off, quad cores will have to become the standard for new computers, which is not even here yet, and will most likely not be until 2009-2010. Then you have to consider the fact that people keep computers for a long time. A lot of people today still have early Pentium 4s and Athlon XPs from around 2001, six years later. So as for when all, or at least just about all home users have quad cores or more, it will be at least 5 years after they become the standard, so I would say around 2014-2015.

Stop dreaming! Just joking. In america (microsoft), mutli-cored computers are in their stage of developement. Computer upgrades are so rapid, that i wouldn't be surprised if most people have them by let's say.... 2008-2009.
