Make sure the wires are connected correctly to the tv. If it is connected correctly, you may have a defective game console. :(

The red light means that it is turned off.

You should not need to hold in the power button to turn on your wii, but if the power buton doesn't seem to be working, try inserting a game disc while the unit is turned off - it should automatically turn on.

Other than that, try unplugging the unit for about 30 sec and plug it back in....mine kinda did something like that once (not exactly the same thing) but that fixed it.

Hit the button again and see if it turns green. The red light just means that the Wii is "off." Yellow means it's on standby, and green means it's on.

That happened to me once and I couldn't do anything about it. You just have to unplug it from the wall and plug it back in.
