Humid means that there is a large amount of moisture in the air, which often times makes it feel warm. Hot just means the temperature is high. It can be hot without there being much humidity...like in the desert.

Moisture is the major difference between humid and hot. Example: Living in Arkansas, where the humidity (or level of moisture in the air) was always high in the summer, we used to joke that we needed to "sprout gills" in order to breathe, or, we used to "drink" the air! After moving to the desert of Arizona, there was little or no humidity, and our jokes then became, "It's so dry, my contact lens are going to crack in my eyes!"
High humidity may make an area seem hotter than the actual temperature, too. 90 degree temps. in Arkansas, along with the high humidity, felt just as hot as the 115 degree temps. we had in Arizona.

Humidity refers to the amount of water vapour in the air.
Hot refers to the temperature you're experiencing.
At high atmospheric temperature, the air can hold more moisture than when it's cooler.
This is when you feel wet and steamy and find it difficult to cool down.
High humidity makes you feel hotter because the sweat on your body can't evaporate easily and it's the evaporation of sweat that normally cools you down.

(I've worked in the Sahara Desert at temperatures up to 60°C.
Due to the dryness of the desert, this temperature, with the proper protection can be withstood for some time but, dehydration is a real danger).

Hot weather without humidity is great. The air is hot but you're not sweating profusely and you can breathe. Hot humid air is like sucking mud through a straw. The air is so humid and heavy you can almost see it. Very uncomfortable.

Humidity refers to the amount of water vapor in the air. Heat is simply temperature. 100% humidity means the air is satuated with water (much like disolving sugar in a drink, only so much will dissolve). It typically rains when the humidity is at 100%.

Hot refers to a measurement of high temperature.
Humid refers to a high water (moisture) content in the air.
When we perspire, the evaporation of perspiration helps cool our bodies and make us feel more comfortable.
When humidity is high, perspiration does not easily evaporate so at any high temperature level, you will feel more hot and less comfortable when the humidity is high.
