wireless adapter doesnt work?

my adapter is plugged into my console and i even have internet but it doesnt work. i tried trouble shooting options but they dont help can someone help me with this problem??

Go to Control panel, Network Connections, Wireless Network connection. Click on Wireless Network tab. Unclick the checkmark on "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

You need to load the driver first before you plug in the adapter. Shutdown PC, then plug in adapter. Power ON PC. Windows XP will detect the adapter and either automatically activate it or lead you to the process of activating it.
