Of course the parents should try to help their child, but the courts are not her parents. It is the courts job to ensure that there is justice.
Letting Hilton out of jail early does not serve justice when so many others must serve their time.
Do I feel bad for her? Nope, because what's really scary is having impaired drivers on the roads.

How many questions are you asking? Don't think you can speak for all parents. I would have preferred that my own spend some time in jail because it teaches you a valuable lesson. I spent 3 1/2 months in a
California jail cell & I can tell you truthfully that it was the best learning experience that I have ever had! I don't feel sorry for her at all, since it was her who got herself into the mess to begin with & it was her who openly flaunted her release in front of the camera. She is one sick puppy & she is a threat to herself & to society. That's why she won't be with the rest of the jail population. She's mentally unstable & now the world can see just what a manipulating & conniving little game player she is. Los Angeles is full is people like her. Charlie Manson & his followers took great delight in the elimination of people like her. I pity the Deputies who will have to listen to her for the next 42 days. They should put her in a padded cell & shoot her up with psych meds if they need to. If she blows a gasket, then I guess she wasn't worth the space she took up in the world anyway! I'm an L.A. girl & we don't need any more media tripe from these people. Sorry, but I don't understand your question!

I would not wish my child to go to jail, but if he did, I would not necessarily pull strings to get him out. Everyone should be equal under the law. Justice should be blind. No one should be above the law, or kept from being punished when they break the law, because of their social standings or any other aspect.
I do not envy the Hilton's because they have a lot of money. They have problems that I will never have. I have no personal animosity toward Paris, OJ, Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, or any other celebrity. But if they do the crime, they should do the time just like everybody else in our society. They should not be treated more harshly to "be made an example of", but should not be treated more leniently just because of their celebrity status.
The reason that I have my big fat face in it is because it IS my business. It is every American citizen's business to ensure that our justice system does not discriminate.

Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Probation violations are a serious matter (as are any offenses which demonstrate contempt for the court's authority).
What bothers me most is a comment that the Sheriff is reported to have made. Ostensibly her release was on medical grounds (see below for my view on that) but he apparently has also said that he thinks the sentence was disproportionate. A sensible public official would stick with the medical issues story.
As for medical issues, if it is physical, there are infirmaries in each jail to deal with that. If it is psychological, I am sure the state of California has a psychiatric hospital to which she can be committed for the rest of her sentence. Perhaps that would do her more good than sitting in a jail cell for 23 hours a day.

Driving under the influence is a serious crime. I have a close friend who was killed by a drunk driver who'd been "arrested" many times before but never served time.
Without serving time in a scary and unhappy situation, she cannot learn a lesson, and she must. Drunk drivers should never "get off easy" as they are lucky if they do not kill someone because of their crime.
In addition, no one should be granted special treatment under the law based on their social or financial status. It's a really dangerous road we go down when we allow people to commit crimes without consequence for any reason.

I think she should have stuck it out in the first place. Now she has to face going back, which is probably worse than the first time.
I don't think jail time is suitable for any non-violent crime. However, she was reckless driving and that is dangerous. Everyone should get the same treatment, but jail time for stupid things is pretty consistent.

You are right, in the sense that a lot of people get out of jail for much worse crimes. However, if my child were sentenced and did the crime, I would be the biggest supporter of he/she doing the time. No jealousy, and no lying here. I just happen to disagree with you.

I hope you understand that people get themselves involved not because of jealousy of Paris Hilton, a rich and famous woman. People want to see that our judicial system is fair and that no one is above the law. That is how I look at it.
