why do white people want to be tan and dark people want to be white?

its not a racist question, i was just wondering, why wont people stick to their natural beauty.

pale white is not hot. i dont like it when people are obsessed with tanning though. i like to have color, but im not gung-ho on tanning.

I think people want a tanned skin because it is nice and it makes them look as if they are glowing. It has got nothing to do with it. I am black, proud and lovin' it. I don't want to be white. This is what God gave me, better take it or leave it. And also it has to do with vanity. You don't have to wonder, just know what you see. It's all about beauty. People think that people with tanned skin look prettier etc. etc.

I get what you're saying and I kind of agree. I'm not sure why people think it's unattractive to be pale, and vice versa. It's a good question.

The same reason they sell girdles, Viagra, fake nails, hair color and permanents. People want to be something they are not.

Influenced by society....tans gets marketed as beautiful when it's actually skin damage and dark people wanting to be whiter I'd say is they perceive lesser discrimination and scorn from others? idk.. just a thought!
