As you probably already know, Mitt Romney is a Mormon. My question is, do we still have such a strain of bigotry in America that we would let that bother us? If you just don't like his politics, fine, but I've heard several reports that say around 25% of Americans would NOT vote for a qualified Mormon because of his religion. For women, and African americans it was something like 5%.

I understand that many people do NOT care about his religion, but I'm wondering, whether you do or not, what's the cause, will it effect him etc.

Good question, not sure how many honest responses you'll get. Religion shouldn't be an issue but it is. If there were an outstanding Republican candidate who happened to be Muslim, an Atheist, or Buddhist, chances are excellent that he/she would not get the nomination. We are that backwards as a nation, sorry to say.

OK ill answer this since im at home sick. Yes we do have such a strain in a America that mormanism bothers many Americans, it's a fact i saw a christian priest on T.V say how Romney is trying to take people to hell with him. People dont like it when their is any sort of competition for belief, its a pride issue, and America and many Countries have religion pride. That is the whole deal. It all makes perfect sense once you think about it. If i dont get best answer tell me why. lolz. People who vote for Romney more if he believed their was a God and he knew nothing about it, no one would question him or anything, because people are prideful and closeminded from it.

I am a Christian, and am fully opposed to the Mormon religion. Romney being a Mormon however would not stop me from voting for him. Mormon's are wrong about much, but they do share many things with Christians, and politically are of little difference.

I however do not find that to oppose Mormons based on Mormonism in terms of elections to be bigotry. To judge someone based upon their skin color, or whether they have a particular piece of anatomy or not, is entirely different from not wanting someone of a particular religion to have authority over you.

Romney needs to prove himself the best candidate, and strongly stand for what is right. He has to convince Christians more than others might have too but that is simply his circumstances as a believer in a different religion. A argument calling people opposed to his religion bigots is not going to win them over. It's not impossible for him to do....his dad was Governor of Michigan where there were very few Mormons, and he himself Governor of Mass under the same circumstances.

Are you kidding? People didn't think Kennedy could get elected because he was Catholic. The Pope would be sitting in the White House! I'm dating myself here, no? Without the religious right, Bush would never have even got close to Al 6 years ago. My father laughed at Michal Moore and asked me if I thought they were going to sit at home for that election. Religion in America is so important that the Europeans can't understand us. Who asked the "Us and Them" question? Good luck.

No more than the fact that John F. Kennedy was a Catholic. There was as big a howl over that during that campaign, after all the Pope would be running the White House. Who cares what his religion is?

I'm LDS and will NOT vote for Romney. It has everything to do with his platform and nothing to do with his religion.

The constitution says - that no man (or woman) shall have to endure a religious test to be elected. The fact that americans would vote based on a denomination, shows that they are acting against the very basis of what it is to be american.

I've known many Mormons in my life and many very successful businessmen. The religion is not a factor at all to me.

I could care LESS what a candidate's religion is. I just want him or her to BELIEVE in America. :)

It won't matter to me. I doubt if it will matter to Republicans at all. Only Democrats seem concerned about it.
