There is in fact some progress being made in this area. Recently New Scientist (Feb 17th, 2007) reported researchers being able to create invisibility in the microwave part of the spectrum. If this wasn't limitation enough, it only works for 2 dimensional objects.
However, most great discoveries start with humble beginnings. Further research is continuing, with expectations of more substantial results.
A New Scientist magazine from several years ago discussed in detail several different approaches to achieving invisibility. Some were obvious and some were quite creative. More research has been done than I had personally expected. It was an interesting read. Sorry, I don't recall the issue or year.

Hi, The video was cool. I think it would be a bit difficult to make. You can get the optical components from edmunds. The other components are all available. Computers, software, a good hi res camera and a reflective cloak. But the effect takes the pretty good positioning of all the components. So it would be most effective in only one position. for both the wearer and the viewer. I think it would make an awesome science fair project but be aware of the work and equipment you would need,

Yes. Just make a cloak and then go down to Invisibility R Us and get all the invisible stuff and nail it on.

The technology has not advanced that far yet.
Wrap-Tech in Calif. has had a limited success with
an invisibilty hankerchief, and is currently working on a red pair of 'I V' underpants.
Engineer Mark Sykes of their test lab has stated,
"We are very excited about our results here, and I hope to
get out there soon and starting dating somebody."

Darken the windows, turn the lights out and run from the person you want to be invisible from.
