The choice of opening move is almost completely a matter of style and personal preference. E4 openings tend to be a little sharper and more tactical than other choices like c4, d4, or Nf3. All four of these choices are extremely popular and have a wide following among the top-level masters.

Nc3 is definitely less popular than Nf3. Its main disadvantage is that it blocks the c pawn from advancing, which is frequently an important move in the battle over control of the center. Obviously Nf3 prevents the f pawn from advancing, but this is less of a problem - advancing the f pawn helps control the center, but it also exposes the White King a little, so Nf3 blocks a pawn that you probably won't be advancing for quite some time.

I would go with the English Opening (1. c4) It gives you more control over the game than 1. e4 or 1. d4. When you open a game with 1.e4 and 1. d4 there could be an immediate bloodbath with a draw resulting. The English keeps all the pieces on board making it ideal opening in a must win situation.

The 1st move isnt that critical. candidates for the 'best' 1st move would be 1 e4, 1d4, 1Nf3 or 1c4. 1f4 and 1g3 and 1b3 are playable even at the highest levels but objectively most strong players would agree they cant be best. Even moves like 1Nc3 or 1c3 are fine and playable. there is no 1st move at all white could make that would actually make him worse, but if you do something silly like 1a3 you almost give up the advantage of having the 1st move. Nevertheless, moves liek that are played at highest levels, for whatever reason, and even bring victory.
Im partial to e4. The reason is that its the only useful move white can make that COULD be prevented by black on his move, with say 1...d4 or 1...Nf6. the other useful moves, 1d4 or Nf3 or 1c4 could always be waited on, played later, depending on how the board evolves.
If there is a themantic problem with 1.e4 it would certainly be the French opening, which is an oddly effective method for black to actually make the e pawn just weak enough for white to kinda lose tempo. But this opening is perfectly fine for white, gives him perfectly good winning chances...you just have to learn how to sidestep the problems it causes. I like the tarrasch variation.

It depends on taste.

The pluses for e4 is it increases the sweep of the King Bishop and queen and increases the hold on d5 (and f5). On the bad side e4 is still weak and it now has a pawn on it to boot.

The pluses for d4 is it increases the sweep of the Queen Bishop and but not so much the queen and increase the hold on e5 (and c5). On the good side d4 is not as weak as e4 is with the other opening.

Nf3 is flexible. Depending on what black does both e4 and d4 are still possible.

Keep 1.e4. Fischer said this is "probably the best move" as it gives you a 1/4 of a Pawn.

depends on the style... but e4 openings are classical chess, i prefer queen pawn (d4 openings)

i would ether move the 2 pawns in front of the rooks the 2 knights or the pawns in front of them. and dont move any other pieces that form a box from rook to rook so the king is in a nice little box

e4 - opens diagonals for queen and bishop, while controlling the centre.
