13 miles?
Unless you are very young or greatly unfit, you should be able to do that before breakfast, so why are you asking what to eat before and during? For two hours, juice or water should keep you going, then you can have a nice ice cream when you finish followed by a full English breakfast.
The amount of food we eat daily in this country means we can do two hours gentle exercise without the need to top up or make special preparations, our bodies have loads of reserves.

I agree with noroofoverhead. At an average speed of 10 miles per hour you will easily do 13 miles in an hour and a half. It is light excercise, and so there is no need for any particular diet.

Just have a normal breakfast, a banana and porridge for example. Water is a good idea, but not essential for an hour and a half bike ride.

Before the ride be sure to drink something. During the ride drink often. No need for Gatorade or such, water or whatever tastes good is fine, even coke. It is only 13 miles but if you are not used to it and it is hot eat a salty snack, peanuts are great, at least half way through the ride.
Have fun

Have a good carbohydrate meal the night before, like pasta, and a light breakfast of toast and jam with some fruit juice. However, it's actually more important to keep yourself hydrated so make sure you drink before and during the ride, though not more than feels comfortable.

eat a energy packed cereal like musliex* or a bran cereal with dried fruit or berries

at the check point eat a powerbar or cliff bar or something not too big yet high in protien

drink plenty of water or gatorade because you can easily stroke out on your bike during a hot ride....happened to my dad once

don't try anything new on the day of the bike ride - worst case scenario is that trying something new like energy drinks or energy bars that are very high in glucose could make you sick

Stick to your regular cereal - maybe have a bigger portion - if you like porridge thats a really good idea.

Banana's also great

Maybe a bag of jelly babies or boiled sweets to keep your sugar levels up or mini choc bars - but like i say if you've never tried energy bars or sports drinks definitely don't be tempted to try them on this bike ride, eat foods that your body is used to - albeit they may not be the most traditional training foods but your body won't reject them.

Good luck!

I would bring a Powerbar or Clif Bar. They have nutrients and calories to keep you going. You should also drink Gatorade instead of water because it has carbohydrates. You can also get Clif Shots which are goo that has calories and is easy to carry. Good luck and make sure you stay hydrated!

Eat carbs ahead of time, it will last for energy endurance. If you eat during, then eat protein, either a protein bar or carry some cheese sticks. Make sure you drink, drink, drink. Good luck, it sounds like fun.
