There is a misconception that the police allow 10%. This is not true.

The car manufacturers allow 10%, so when the spedo reads 30, you are really doing about 10% less, or 27mph.
Don't believe me?

If the spedo read less than the actual speed and you got fined you and others would sue the car manufacturers, so tey build this intollerance in as protection for themselves. If you have an on boardcomputer then switch on cruse controll at 70mph on the motorway, reset the average speed and after a few moments you will find the average speed settles at 67.

If you speedo said 32 almost certainly you were only doing say 29. Speedometers always read a bit high. If it was a camera and you were flashed, all sorts of things can set the flash off and the photos should be used to check the real speed. If it was a mobile unit then wait and see. They have to send you a notice of intended prosecution within 10 working days ie 2 weeks of the alleged offence. Being difficult to find will not be a get-out though

If you were doing 32mph you should not hear anything from the police as there is a allowed 2mph leway as speedometers in cars are not 100% reliable unless they are calibrated unless its an ex police car,If you do get a ticket you can ask the police for a calibration certificate to prove the speed gun is correct if the certificate is over 12months old then the ticket is void by law and you get away with it..but i should say you prob not hear a thing but if you do they will offer you a road safety coarse so you get no points but you still have to pay the £60

Don't worry , doing 32 in a 30 is within the limit , they work it out at the speed limit plus ten percent

I was going down the road years ago at about 45 in a 30 , but spotted the gun and slowed down with the hand brake etc.
Got stoped and clocked at 34 , got a warning and had to visit police station to show.
Was told if I had been clocked doing 35 then I would have been knicked .

It depends on where you live whether you receive a ticket of not. It also depends on what police agency set up the radar, and what time of the month it is (in some jurisdictions, it makes a difference.)
Here in the States, you can usually figure on 7 to 10 mph over the limit as grace before getting a ticket.

I have had a fine at 33 in a 30 zone and 77 on a motorway, there is no "lee way" allowed by law.

There is also no limit as to the time delay from when you are Zapped to when you receive notification of intended prosecution, although if you have not heard by 6 months it is unlikely you will be done.

Sorry if this is bad news but it is entirely up to the Police as to whether or not they proceed.

Everyone talks about this 10% leeway where it is allowing for error this is wrong!

THe leeway is UP TO 10%, so in your case you COULD get fined for anything over 30, this leeway is dependant on the police force in concern.

All NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution) has to be received within 14 days of the date of offence (dont count public holidays). After this period, you can officially discard any fines, penalties etc.

Bottom line, my personal opinion is that you WONT get a ticket as we dont know how accurate your speedo dial is, non-digital gauges have an error of up to 10%.

For all you know it may have over-estimated your speed and you're worrying about nothing :-)

well for staters speed cameras only go off if your doing 5+ over the limit so your speedometer is off you need it recalabrated if it comes back as accurate then you can fight the ticket ask them when that speed gun was last calibrated or you could say you were not driving your car that day and your not sure who was

I think that you will be ok. not heard of anyone being done for being 2 miles over the speed limit. It is also very likely that your spedo is wrong and you were in fact doing less than 30 MPH anyway.

They can't nick you - speedos (no, the instruments, not the swimming trunks) by law have to be accurate to within 10%, so they have to allow for that. They also have to allow a further 2mph for the inaccuracy of the speed gun.

So..in a 30mph area, you'd have to be doing 35mph to get nicked, otherwise the court would throw it out as unsafe.
