Normally no more than 14 days but it depends on your GP and also how the pregnancy has been. I was going to be induced 5 days after my due date but I started on my own the day I was going to be started off x I know that its an exciting time but your addition will arrive when he/she is ready, I would make the most of the time you have to yourselves left because when little one is around, your time will not be your own for a while. Enjoy parenthood :)

You're not considered overdue until 42 weeks. Normal delivery is between 37 & 42 weeks. Your Doc will watch closely now - actually waiting patiently - for things to happen on their own. If it goes too long, Doc will induce labor. Follow the Mayo Clinic link.
Otherwise, there are a few things you can do to stir things up a bit - including sex! Follow the pregnancy link below for some pointers.

I was told 2 weeks but I was induced after a week as my hands and feet were swollen with water retention. I made a bit of a fuss (not much) and said I didnt want to wait for 2 weeks. This was 8 years ago and things do change but I would be very surprised if they left you longer than 2 weeks.
Good luck- I wouldt like to be pregnant in this warm weather!!

That`s soo normal. The due date can be two weeks either side of 40 weeks,so if the baby is later than the 40 they`ll wait an additional 2 if there isn`t any problem. After these however, they do tend to induce labour or if there`s a problem, they do a ceasarian.

Up to 14 days. the placenta won't function so well afterwards, so would have to be induced! If you got twins, I thought they arrive earlier! My boys (non-twins, 10 years between them)held on for 13 days! My first was induced, second arrived on his own accord! Good luck!

I was late by 6 days with my first before induction... Some doctors will let a woman go up to 14 days.

In UK usually 10 days. Then you are asked to go to the hospital to be induced. If you insist you can wait until you are 14 days overdue before being induced if you are not having any problems.

They start looking at the baby and fluid level every day after 40 weeks. At 42 weeks they induce labor even if the baby is still fine.

Depends on the doctor. Some will wait 2 weeks, some only a few days.

The longest that they will let you go past the due date is 14 days. After that they will induce the birth. It has something to do with the functioning of the placenta I think.
