my mom says that if you step over someone while they're young, they won't be tall. it's probably the stupidest one i've heard. But I'm a believer of the mirror breaking thing.

Don't throw a hat on a bed if someone is seating on the bed, it means the death of the person seating there

If you spill salt on the table throw a pinch over your right shoulder to avert the evil eye

Bad luck to break crystal (it certainly is for you if it is MY crystal!)

Say 'bless you' when someone sneezes (when you sneeze your soul leaves your body, so they bless you to protect you during that vulnerable time)

Four leaf clover is supposed to be good luck (never managed to find one when I was a kid)

If a bee flies around a new born pram it is good luck

A white horse crosses your path, spit on the ground to avert bad luck

If you find a horse shoe throw it over your shoulder and make a wish. If the shoe has seven holes it is even better

Very unlucky to open your umbrella in a house, you bring a black shadow to the house

Light three candles in the room of a sick person and see which one will burn the fastest. The first one : the sick one will get better quickly, the second one means a long illness, the third one means death

Stop all clocks in a house where a person just died. It tells the dead one that his time on Earth is ended.

Never step out of bed with your left foot. If you do go back in bed, cross yourself three times and get out on the right foot this time.

One of the funniest : before a child is baptised the godfather has to urinate facing east and put on a white shirt. It makes the devil go away.

Never cross tableware (ie knife and fork)

By the prickling of my thumb something evil this way come...

And so many more

And by the way, I don't believe any of it LOL

I'm not really one for superstitions, but some ones I've heard are quite strange:

If you place a pair of new shoes on a table, it will bring bad luck to the person who wears them.

Cutting your nails, or cutting your hair on a Sunday will mean that bad luck will follow you for the whole week.

If you kill a beetle, a rain storm is soon to follow.

If you want to find your true love, go out early in the morning on the 1st of the month and wash your face with the dew in the grass

If your nose starts to itch, you will quarrel with someone

I never walk under a ladder and believe in the mirror thing. I always wear a crucifix alternating between my everyday silver one (that if I lost or broke I wouldn't care too much for) and my expensive gold one! In fact I have loads of crucifixes that I wear depending on mood or outfit (not all at once!) - I just feel safe with one round my neck like God is looking after me and if I am in trouble/panic/danger I touch it!

If a "bird" flys into your home thru a window or open door and flutters around a few seconds, then a family member of someone who lives in that home will pass away within 3 days.. If when a woman is pregnant and gets scared, where-ever on her body she touches or grabs, her baby will be marked on that same spot at birth..

If you see a black cat, cross yourself seven times to keep the bad luck away. If your right hand itches you'll receive money, and if the left hand does you'll have company. If you spill salt throw it over your shoulder to keep the bad luck away.
Personally I believe the superstition of a self-fulfilling prophesy, if something is foretold to happen and you believe, then you make it happen. I apply this to everything I hear.

All superstitions are nonsense. There are some common sense ideas in there i.e not walking under a ladder. Not bad luck just a bit risky

None. I finally wised up 3 years ago and realized that there isn't anything superstitious or supernatural in the world, oh and this little revelation came after I spent several years as a xtian. After I realized what a fraud the supernatural and religion was, I quit wasting my time.

do not look in the mirror at the dark - you will have an old husband.
do not eat off a knife - you will die.
if you go out of your place and have a difficult task ahead, like exams or something, it's better that the first person who you meet will be a man. It means that you will be successful.

I salute a magpie if it's on its own. Supposed to counter the sorrow it's supposed to give you. It's just a habit now.

Then there's the black cat crossing the road. That's supposed to be unlucky.

Throwing spilt salt over your right shoulder is another one.

Also, it's bad luck to cut up pasta.
