Mike Svonavec who owns the actual crash site of flight 93 is demanding 10 million for his 200 and some odd acres of land. He also set up a donation box at the temporary memorial site with the funds going straight into his pocket. I want to know how people feel about this. Personally I think he is the worst kind of scum. While I am not a fan of emminient domain I believe this is one of the few cases where it would be justified.

I am surprised at the number of people defending this vulture. I think it would be funny if the government charged his back taxes on the ten million he thinks it worth.

For people decrying things he may have had on the land it was an old strip mine not really suitable for much.

I think he's being an ******. If he wants to sell the land for fair market value, that's fine, but he is gouging the people trying to build the memorial. WHY is there ALWAYS someone pulling s*it like this?!?

I don't get it. If the guy owns the land and wants to sell it for 10 million, Isn't that his right? Who are we to dictate how much he should sell the land for? This is crazy. Next time someone wants to buy a car but thinks the price is too high, Start a blog and complain that you don't think the car should cost that much. I'm sure the dealer will sell it to you for the price YOU want.
And for the Donation box. Is this really an issue? Most of you probably go to Church and Give money. Where do you think that money goes? Does it go to GOD? NO! So every one should stop giving to the church because that money's just going to line some ones pocket...Come on People.

I can see him selling it and I do think the govt should by it for twice maybe what it is worth so he does gain something for his suffering. I do think however 10 mill is just to much. Some people take unfortunate situations and use them for profit unfortunately. I am sure the man however is not cold hearted completely. I would not want media and all the people on my land all the time either. I like my privacy. I would however sell to the gov't but not rip them off in the mean time.

Its his land, he has the right to charge whatever he wants for it.
As foe eminent domain, that is rediculous. Just because the family members want to build a memorial on the land does not mean that they can.
While it was a tragedy, thats all it was, a tragedy - if we did this everytime a tragedy happened, there would be no land left to live on, only memorials.
The families need to understand you dont always get what you want.
They are in no way entitled to this land or to a memorial.
As for the donation box, if he is spending $10,000 a month to protect this site for others, then he has every right to ask for donations. And this makes your statement that it is going right iinto his pocket an outright lie.

Since the government will not pay him to move and have the same things on his property that he had before the crash and the subsequent loss of privacy, I suppose he feels a bit justified. It IS a bit odd, I think. But...I can understand why he would do it. What if some day the government DOES take away his property for some reason, after all. That's just one "for instance."

Eminent domain? You must be kidding!
Pennsylvania farmers are solitary, private people. What I see is a man beset by media hordes over something he couldn't control who wants nothing to do with them or it.
The Amish in Pennsylvania feel the same way; they will aks outlandish amounts for their farms because they want people to just go away.
I wish these people would leave the man alone.

pay attention mate whilst a airplane is shot down it does no longer land and it fairly does no longer have the aptitude to even attempt to land we are talkin of an commercial liner no longer a miltary airplane one shot from an f-sixteen could have extra the airplane down technically as a result the airplane could have fallen down in purely one place and apart from ab f-sixteen 's hearth powere is fairly effective . they scattering of debrie cud be placed as in that the passengers could have had a scuffle on board shooting the hijackers yet via airplane flyin low via 3 cicumstance the effective torque on the wings could have torn the airplane into products

It's distasteful, I can see him selling it, but it should be at the going rate for farmland in the area. Trying to profit off of a horrific tragedy is pretty disgusting.

I see nothing wrong with it... if that plot of land belonged to me, I'd want $100 Million for it because of all the people who won't let that 6 year old tragedy go so they can get on with their lives... I am so SICK of hearing about 9/11 at LEAST five times a DAY... EVERY DAY for FIVE YEARS NOW...
It's time to close the book and have everyone get back to living and let this thing GO... instead of the Bush Whitehouse and the New York News media keeping this thing going and going and going...
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH... This was an East Coast event... it had NOTHING to do with me or anyone I know... and it happened OVER FIVE YEARS AGO.... I really don't CARE about it any longer and I'm tired of hearing about it.
