Watergate

The Watergate scandal, President Nixon ordered some of his men to steal documents from the democrats´ headquarters. 2 reporters found out about it and reported it in their news paper. (Very famous reporters nowadays, sorry to say can´t remember their names now.) That was the end of Nixon, although he lied on TV first, but then had to admit it was true, and had to leave the President office. If not for President Gerald Ford, Nixon would probably have spent the rest of his life in prison. It was BIG news all over the world then. There has been a film of that too, many years ago.

Watergate, named for the Watergate Hotel.

Four of Nixon's top aides infiltrated the Democratic headquarters looking for some way to destroy his last remaining rival in the fall election. They were caught by a rent-a-cop who noticed tape on the door. Huge sections of tapes of Nixon speaking with his aides were erased by his secretary. The story didn't really break until about a year after the incident occured.

Hey, why all the thumbs down on the Watergate Hotel?

That's where the Campaign offices of the Democratic Party were at!

Remember, break-in.....cover-up....abuse of power..."I'm not a crook!" .....What missing tape?......Okay, I resign....call me Tricky Dick Nixon...

.Watergate Hotel my friend!
