I have just bought a Wireless G-router with Speedbooster (Linskys) but, after using the provided set-up CD, at the stage where the router tries to connect to the Internet it cannot do it.

I followed the instructions carefully and plugged each wire into the computer/router/modem as instructed. The only difference was that there was not originally an Ethernet cable plugged in anywhere on the back of the PC, so I connected (an extra) one I had into the modem and router.

The plug where I plugged in the blue network cable (provided with the router) was also not occupied by any other plugs, but the Internet worked fine with nothing being connected to it previously.

Having plugged all the wires in correctly and with the router and modem both seemingly working, it still would not connect to the Internet. I then phoned my ISP, who told me to try unplugging the modem from the wall for 30 seconds (which didn't work), and that the IP (address?) was dynamic.

Any ideas?

The advice given so far is spot on. I had the same problem. It turned out the the router had not had time to get an IP address and that I had to do something to assist this. I can't for the life of me remember what it was though.

I have exactly the same router. My ISP is covad. I went through a few hair-raising moments until I discovered that, contrary to my belief, I was NOT following the instructions precisely!

Ensure the phone wire is INDEED plugged into the butt-end of the modem. Then unplug the power from the modem just for the heck of it. Ensure the DSL cable is coming out of the correct port on the DSL modem onto the correct port on the router. Ensure the next DSL cable comes OUT of the correct por (use PORT 1, not PORT 4, as I did!!!) and goes to your computer. Now, power off the router, just for the heck of it.

Now, go have a cup of coffee or a root beer and think about something pleasant.

Now come back (your CD Linksys software is still waiting to "discover the router", que no?) and go for it...All should go well this time.

(If like me, you had a password logon to your DSL provider, hopefully you had set that up to go purdy much automatic. Also another note: when you go to the administration IP address for your router - Linksys doesn't emphasize this, but I suggest you go in and click the Administrate tab and change the administrator password from the default password, "admin", to something else, and REMEMBER THAT PASSWORD!

If you can't try to figure it out yourself after all of the above answers, try downloading Linksys EasyLink Advisor on the PC that is directly connected to your router. Make sure you specify the correct model # of your wireless-G router.

LELA will evaluate your connection and will tell you the source of the problem.

Good Luck.

Have you rebooted your PC? Reboot everything, modem, router, PC and it seems like 80% of the time that solves it.
Just a try...
