Has anyone read a good book with good ideas on how to help your child learn to self soothe when it comes to naps and bedtime?

I echo the previous posters' suggestions to check out _The No Cry Sleep Solution_ by Elizabeth Pantley. There is a book by William and Martha Sears called _The Baby Sleep Book_ that gives suggestions on gentle methods of getting your bay to sleep.

I used a lot of the suggestions in NCSS and did have some success. Working on sleep issues is tough and when you choose to use a method that doesn't involve CIO, it is very tough to put into practice because you are so tired yourself, but in the long run, I have felt much better about my choice and the methods I've used than I would have had I allowed my daughter to cry it out.

Good luck!

I haven't read a book at all on this subject but sometimes when they know you aren't going to come running, then they will settle down. It's been done for many years and even though we want to hold, cuddle and just love them, it won't hurt to let your baby cry it out. Does your baby take a pacfier? Some parents don't like them - I see nothing wrong with them. Babies, children are controllers - you must be the parent and let your child know this. It's hard but then there is nothing easy about parenting. My suggestion is one of James Dobson's books about children. So far he has been the best on the subject that I've either read or heard him speak. See if you can't find something that he has written on the subject and God bless.

The No-Cry Sleep Solution is awesome! It's written by Elizabeth Pantley, and all book stores sell it. Many mega-marts stock it as well.

ask at the library. there are books available, but I can't think of the titles offhand. try this site, too, for tips.

"the no-cry sleep solution". I bought it, but never put it to practice.

As long as your newborn has a dry butt and a full tummy - let him/her exercise their lungs! Just turn on a radio, playing calm soothing music and everything will be fine.
