what ever is normal for your body may not be normal for anothers; generally you should be going daily; up to 3-4 times a day; if not; then it may not be normal; try increasing exercise, water intake and bulk fiber and see if that helps. and YES you can be hospitalised for constipation and theres no set number of days with out a bowel movement to diagnose constipation either; generally once someone feels uncomfortable and bloated they try taking over the counter laxatives and when that doesn't work they seek treatment; from being too constipated you can develop and obstruction in your bowel and as you know what goes in will eventually come out; if it can't get by the obstruction; it will eventually exit through the mouth; those are severe cases though; but it is true.. if you are uncomfortable physically, and mentally fatigued, try increasing water; drink prune juice or equivalent bulk fiber to get things moving; if it doesn't help and you are more uncomfortable seek the laxatives and medical care. good luck and hope this helps.

The primarly effect of constipation is having the urge to have a bowel movement, but not being able because of insufficient fluid in the bowels..... quite the opposite of diarrhea.

It sounds to me that you have some other problem. Are you eating regularly? Are you anorexic? Are you anal retentive? If you are throwing up, you might be bulemic as well as anorexic.

A visit to your local GP and shrink might be a good idea.

fecal emesis (vomiting stool) only occurs in those for whom the bowel has ceased to function, and has died, it is an emergency situation and the patient often dies from perotonitis.
As for constipation, that varies from individual to individual, and once every four days is not uncommon. If you want to increase the motility of your bowel, you would do well to drink at least 2 liters of water every single day and take docusate sodium to soften your stools. Eat high fiber foods and exercise regularly.
It is rare that someone is admitted to a hospital for constipation, ordinarily they are given an enema or laxative and sent home.
