i need some help with changing the color for my background for window xp cause yesterday i just brought a brand new computer screen viewsonic flat screen window ? just that the colors just too bright that it hurting my eyes .

Try lowering the contrast with the contrast knob on the monitor.

When any new monitors comes it comes with a
100% Brightness
100% Contrast and
all 100%, just to be seen that our company gives the best, this is what all the companies do, no exception. Even the screen setting done by Microsoft and other are also high.
like white backgrounf and black text, which definately affects the eyes.

There are 2 step u will have to take the monitor has a panel for buttons on the bottom or on the right/left side.

First reduce the brightness and constrast to 50% which should be ideal, if u find this also bright reduce to 40%.

In the computer right click on a empty space and go to properties go to the APPEARANCE TAB and do your setting for the foreground background active title inactive title etc etc.

ur eyes r important, so choose only that colors which soothes you.

Rt click on a blank part of the desktop select properties then the desktop tab then color, or there are more choices than jus color.
Take your pick you can always change it.

Your monitor should have its own set of controls: usually a set of buttons =)

You should only need to adjust the brightness and contrast.
