You use only 1 router.

The router WAN port connects to the modem.

I presume you have a dynamic ip address from your ISP so configure the router for a dynamic WAN IP address.

You connect the network ports of the pcs to the LAN ports of the router, assuming the router has more than 1 LAN port. If you have only 1 LAN port on the router you will need a network switch and you connect the pcs to the network switch and the router LAN port to the network switch as well.

Configure the LAN side of the router to provide LAN IP addresses via DHCP.

Configure the pc network port to obtain IP address automatically and to obtain DNS automatically.

Use a straight CAT5 cable to link the Router, pcs and network switch (if you end up needing the switch) together.

You may need a cross cable to link modem to router WAN; it may take a straight cable - check the router info on this.

If you have a problems somewhere along the line, write back telling us what you did and we can help further.

John touched in this. while you're related on your router with ethernet, then you definately are in easy terms getting an 10mbps connection. Routers and ethernet enjoying cards run on 10/100mbps connections. whilst using frequently occurring copper ethernet it is going to in easy terms do 10 mbps. The copper can't cope with the bandwidth needed for the one hundred. What you elect to do is pass on the spot. you do no longer desire the 802.11n...it fairly is overkill. you purely could get a on the spot router it fairly is speedier then you definately connection velocity. An 802.11g is 54mbps. it fairly is extra then sufficient for you. A router will run you approximately 50-60 and a on the spot card approximately 30-40.

If you have a router, you connect both machines to it. You can not use 2 routers on the same network, they just conflict with each other.
