I read this question that a lady posted about her brother who had a child who was born with a disability. She showed no concern or love towards her little niece at all. She only wanted her brother to feel ashamed for getting public assistance for his disabled child! I cried for the child to have such a snob for an Aunt. Are there other people this cold hearted?

This child needs several surgeries! I still feel sorry for that small child! This is not about the Father who needed help for the medical bill etc. it's that poor little child. Who is disabled and needs the help! How can anyone turn their back on any sick child let alone your own flesh and blood!

Unfortunately, there are others that are just as cold hearted as that woman. I grew up on welfare, because my mother is both physically and mentally disabled. One would think that the rest of my family would have been sympathetic and helpful. Instead, we were the family outcasts. No one helped except for my grandmother. The rest of the family pretended that we didn't exist. And to top it off, two of my aunts are exceedingly wealthy. Yet they could never bring themselves down enough to even speak with their sister.

I would not turn my back on them. I would encourage them to use the time wisely to further their education so they could get a job that paid well enough that they coyuld take care of themselves and their family. I had to do this when I was a single mother with 2 small children. I was able to finish my degree in nursing while on welfare for 11/2 years. After that I was able to support my children without assistance as I was able to get a good paying job.

No. But a true family member would offer to help out with the hopes of getting this person off of welfare. What in the world has happened to us? What's happened with family unity and family helping family?
We're turning into a welfare state and are slowly but surely heading towards dependency on our government for everything. In essence, they'll have us where they want us. We're almost there.

I would Help them find work ..
I would support them to the best of my ability
but if they just wanted to stay home and collect welfare and not better themself yes..
I do not want me or my children around such scum..
Blood is NOT thicker than water and i have no problem turning my back on wasteful people family or not!
Being family does not mean i have to change my stance..
I am not fake...
I am against welfare and i am not gonna change that because a "family" member is collecting
I am against anyone sitting at home collecting it !

No. I have two family members on SSI because they both are mentally delayed due to epilepsy.
I would, however, tell a family member who is healthy and capable of working to get their lazy butts up and get a job.
I would also report them to social services if they don't.

If my family member wasn't physically or mentally disabled, and they were just being lazy bums, I would strongly encourage them to get back on their feet. If that didn't work for a while, yes, I would say get lost. Bad influence on the family.

I'm sure there are. If people took care of their families maybe the need for public assistance would decrease.

if they needed the assistance no one should condemn them for it. if they were completely able to handle the situation without the assistance, then they should leave the assistance for those that need it more.
