After a fresh installation of Win XP, next should be the motherboard chipset drivers, then the video card driver, soundcard driver, etc. Then the various softwares.

Always worked for me flawlessly all the time in various PCs.

You should always burn drivers to cd, in any case backed up info is no good to you, the drivers need to be installed correctly. You should have the original drivers on disk from when the machine was first installed. Otherwise you need to download drivers from each manufacturers site.

if you bought your computer from a major computer company such as dell, hp and gateway, you should be able to download all the original drivers from their websites. It should be under costumer support. If you built a computer/had a computer build/added parts to your computer, you will have to download each driver individually from each manufacturer's website. There is normally a section for support and downloads.
