Since I'm having problems starting up my laptop, does it do any harm to keep my lap top powered up all the time until I can find a solution to my problem?

If you keep it plugged in constantly, it won't do any harm. The only harm that could be done was if you kept plugging it in and then unplugging it over and over. Hope you fix the problem.

I leave mine (laptop) on all the time most of the time. However lately after about three months of leaving it on almost all the time I find it now is having problems sometimes.

Frequently the laptop goes "to sleep" and doesn't wake up. I can't get it to wake up or come back on. When this happens I have to shut off the power and restart the computer. Of course I lose everything except any open windows in Firefox browser which allows you to restart where you left off.

Also now I notice once in a while the laptop will cut off by itself and I lose everything except the Firefox browser windows mentioned above.

Oh yes one more thing. about four or five times in the past three months my laptop fan comes on by itself when the computer is "asleep" and unfortunately it's always happened when I was at work so I don't know how long it was on. I am gone about 12 hours so it could be on for up to 12 hours. I don't think that is good for the laptop as when it happens the laptop computer is real hot.

My laptop computer never did these things before. I cannot tell for sure if leaving it on is the cause, but it is very aggravating.

Hey,

Laptops are similar to cars. They're all prone to degredation and overheating if they're left on long enough and don't get enough cooling. If you're having problems booting up, you'd be best to describe your problems and we can attempt to help you solve those. You don't want to have to pay to have hardware replaced. That can run you quite a bit of money.

Regards,

Brandon

The batt will stay charged. Not that it would hurt it but I would discharge it and store it disconnected to the laptop.

Even that is just my preference. It should be fine

Also, booting issues can be resolved, maybe post another question about that.

2 benefits of powering down: (1) energy-saving for you and me; (2) laptops are all prone to overheat: give it (and the air) a chance to cool down for awhile
