How do we know that the earth should not be warming, I have seen stories of mammoths and people frozen in the ice that people say shouldn’t be melting. How did they get there, looks like it wasn’t always ice to me maybe this is what is normal for the earth. I don’t see a problem with a 1 degree rise in temperature in the past 100 years.

There is no proof that MAN is the cause. There is proof that it is a natural phenomenon.

Whatever changes that have been attributed to man are the result of only 50-75 years of records -- hardly the makings of a climate history.

For example, thermometers now used are recording things to 0.01 degree automatically compared to manual readings from 100 years ago that were lucky to be within 0.5 degrees.

Over 100 years ago most recordings were de facto more likely to be in rural rather than urban (i.e., concrete heat islands) settings. Where are most official temperatures recorded today? At AIRPORTS -- large concrete heat islands which did not even exist 100 years ago.

So just given those two facts will show you that the error bars on the famous "hockey stick" graph (for which no one ever bothers to point out the scale is) far exceeds the change in temperature represented by that graph. Look at the temperature scale and ask for the error bars -- the "experts" will not be able to provide that info. The "hockey stick" is one of those great devices which looks great, but has no substance, but the ignorant masses will swallow it as "proof".

To say that man's presence is the cause of the temperature increases is akin to saying, "summer gets hotter because people wear less clothes". The proof is just look at the number of people who were skimpy clothes and compare that to the daily temperature. It is an obvious and undeniable correlation.

CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.

Look at the 'hockeystick', which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest.
(see links below)

How's that for proof of man's fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.

There has NEVER been an article doubting man's influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.

Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the 'little ice age' of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.

Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

Very good points, but the thing we should all keep in mind is that the last time this happened, there were far fewer people on the planet. The climate change was a result of a natural event like increased volcano activity, or some cyclical CO2 event. It was never caused by our releasing so much CO2 so fast like we are doing now. Also, I think the thing that will be the biggest problem for us today is the human suffering and political upheaval it could cause. We already fight over oil. Imagine fighting over fresh water, or arable land. Plus, the ecological impact is a concern. Could we live on a planet without polar bears and tuna fish, elephants or lions? I suppose we could. But what if the oceans warmed enough to the point that it threw off the levels of producers...all those little algae and one celled organisms that take in so much CO2 and are the basis for the ocean food chain? If they go away, we are in big trouble, both from a food supply and an atmospheric point of view.
As the climate changes, there will be winners and losers. What if the winner is a deadly virus? Might we become the loser? I'd rather not test that theory. So let's keep the environment as close to the configuration it should be naturally.

There isn't proof. But there's a lot of evidence.

Global temperature fluctions have occurred throughout the ages and these have been documented through ice and other records. What is alarming people is the rate of change of our current situation.

Another thing that perhaps is more alarming is that the Earth has a way of evening things out - with no regard to the effects on inhabitants of the planet. So a sudden rise in temperature is likely to result in a sudden plunge. Catastrophic plunges in temperature have been documented in the ice records also. They can happen very suddenly - a decade or so. Imagine what would happen to our society if the roads became impassable, the power lines came down, crops didn't grow, etc. Bad, bad, news.

I agree, there is no proof. With less than 200 years of weather records, this could be a normal cycle. Although many people (including Al Gore in "An Inconvenient Truth") will claim that we have 600,000+ years of records. Somehow they can tell the temperature a certain year from air bubbles trapped in the North Pole. Unfortunately he discredits himself when he states that that ice melts and refreezes several times a year, which would cause the bubbles to mix and give inaccurate results. There really is no proof of global warming and I actually don't mind the rise in temperature anyways. It's enjoyable for me.

Well its true some of global warming may be natural. Estimates of what is natural and what is man made vary hugely (from about 10% man made to 90% man made).

But - and here is the point - whatever the cause it is very bad news. Say bye bye New York City. And Washington. And the grain belt. And Florida. And....

Basically a warm world will not support the lifestyle or even the population you are used to.

It's not the proof - the whole solar system is warming, including Mars (we've got local telemetry probes) , Jupiter, Saturn (we've got local telemetry probes), and Titan. The solar constant has very slightly increased.

It's the mechanism - if it is the Sun then there is no money to be made and no power to be inflicted. Maize whore Archer-Daniels-Midland will be sore wroth re subsidized fuel ethanol. Run the math using government figures,

You can end Official Global Waming merely by ablating the Third World. End all charity and wait 90 days. Is that sufficiently cheap and painless for those of us who are productive rather than reproductive?

I think most of this global warming stuff is crap....yes its heating, but really i think its normal, I mean honestly the earth went thru and ice age and came out ok....I believe its just a cycle.....That being said i do believe that something does need to be done about pollution and choping all the trees down!!

There is absolutely no proof only theory 'And these theory's are what allow allot of academe's to be funded Researchers and think tanks drain millions into their pockets by promoting the global warming scare..In my lifetime the weather has changed In A little town in southern Mo. Koshkonong This little town used to be the peach capitol of Mo. now all the peach trees are mostly gone the weather turned too cold.Al Gore would say Global warming?Fescue,a cool weather grass used to stay green all winter in southern mo. now it freezes.

I wish we would get more global warming up here in my part of the world. Just one nice toasty long summer would be fine for me for awhile.
.....And for that matter, what makes us think we are the cause of global warming and not volcanic activity or plate shifts?
.....or maybe just more accurate thermometers over the past 100 years.......
