Over time, a computer's files on its hard drive will break up or become fragmented. Though still there, it takes longer for Windows to find them all, and therefore your computer runs slower. To DEFRAGMENT, click Start--All Programs--Accessories--System Tools--Disk Defragmenter. Along the bottom of this window are 4 colored squares: RED (Fragmented files), BLUE (Non-fragmented or contiguous files), GREEN (Unmovable files), and WHITE (Free space left on hard drive). Above these squares are two buttons--ANALYZE (tells if defragmenting is needed), and DEFRAGMENT (if told yes, after analysis). Defragmenting merely puts all the file pieces back together so the Windows program doesn't have to look so long to find what you are searching for. When you click the DEFRAGMENT button, in the two long strips above it, it will show the before and after of your files, using colored lines (the 4 mentioned above) to show what is being done.In the after line, the more white space it shows, the better (more files were put back together) your computer will work. If really messed up, it could take over an hour to complete the process. Defragmenting will not harm your computer and it is recommended you do this at least once a month, and your virus scans once a week at the same time (my scans are set to 8 pm on Fridays). If I am on the internet at that time, and the Norton window comes up, I just minimize it (the little button at the top of your monitor screen with the underscore line on it), and keep working. Hope this helps. Oh--if it says "no defragmenting needed" (or something similar) after analysis, don't worry about it. In System Tools, it also mentions DISK CLEANUP--this tells how much space you will be able to clean-up on your hard drive (this can be run before defragmenting, but is not necessary).

Do you mean like the dust or the software? If you mean like dust it won't help your speed but go in and open your case and blow it out with a can of compressed air. If you me like the software the first step is to do a "disk cleanup". That is under the "system tools". After that go through and remove all the files that you don't need there any more using the file manager. The essayist way to get there is just to go to "my computer". Next you want to remove any unwanted programs. To do this go to the "control panel" then "add/remove programs". Go through the list and remove anything you don't need any more. The last thing that you need to do is do a "defragment disk" which is also under the "system tools" this won't fix the problems but it should make a big difference. Another thing that can help is to change you paging file size. To do this right click on "My Computer" and select "properties". Under properties select "Advanced". Then select "settings" under "Performance". Under that select "Advanced" under "virtual memory" select "change". Select "custom size' make sure both numbers are the same. They should be about the same size as your RAM. Hit "OK" three times and that should help keep you computer running better.

Using registry cleaner can clean your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there are some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

well here is what i do to clean my computer

first i go to start>my computer, then i right click on my hard drive (local disk (C:)) then i look at my free space, and if there is less than half the drive of free space, i go to all kinds of folders on my computer and delete stuff i dont need,
CLEANING YOUR COMPUTER TO MAKE IT FASTER IS A LONG PROCESS.
first i delete any videos or music that i dont need that is on my computer, because these take up lots of space.
then i delete any games on my computer that i have that i dont play anymore, because these take up huge amounts of space, and dont just delete these, you have to uninstall them or else they will still leave files and stuff on your computer
then i go to Start>Control panel>Network and internet connections>Internet options, then where it says
Temporary internet files, i click on delete cookies, and then i click on delete files, each of these may take some time,
another thing i do on a regular basis, is i open my computer, just take one of the side panels off, and i get my air compressor, and i blow out all the dust inside it, because if it is really dusty in there everything will get clogged and stuff and work slower, but make sure there is not too much air pressure you dont want to disconnect anything or damage anything.
the thing that will help your computer go fast tho that will make a BIG difference, is more RAM, i bought a stick of 512mb ram for about 60$ canadian, i now have 736mb of ram and my computer works very nicely.
right click on My Computer and go properties and it will tell you how much RAM you have. 512mb or more and your computer will run very nicely, if you like to play lots of video games tho, you will want at least one gigabyte of ram, one gigabyte is about 1000mb.

there that should cover it, i have no clue how much you know about computers so i just helped as much as i could.
