For the life of me I can't figure out why Ron Santo -- who deserves to be in the hall as much as anyone not in it -- always gets a "Yeah!" and Roger Maris a "No". The writers have you people trained well. The hall need not be about guys with 3,900 hits or 650 homers or 400 wins. It should be about greatness. What is wrong with a fella like Jackie Robinson getting in with just 12 years? According to you, his breaking the color line shouldn't count, it's his numbers. Well, Santo's numbers ain't all that tough, but, yes, he belongs. During his day there was Brooks Robinson in the AL and there was Ron Santo in the NL. The fact that Ron didn't play 24 years the way you expect others to shouldn't matter. He was an icon. So was Maris. The record he held longer than anyone else was THE record. THE RECORD!

As for Jim Rice, Boston fell in love with the white guy, Freddie Lynn, so the fact that Rice was for fully 10 years the power hitter in the AL is overlooked. His not being in the hall is an indictment of the writers' tendency to overlook black players in favor of guys who look like christian dentists.

Both Garvey and Hernandez belong. Look at their career numbers. Garvey's games played streak and 162 game season at 1st without an error speak well as extras to promote him. Hernandez was no flash in the pan either.

You could add Tommy John and Bert Blyleven as well as Thurmon Munsons to the list, too. 3 guys who obviously pissed off some writer somewhere to get themselves left off the list of Hall of Famers.

C'mon, folks. Stop thinking like the writers and start thinking like fans. Thinking fans

It has to be Jim Rice. He was one of the best players of his era, but never won a ring or got along with the media. Santo should be in too. The other 3 were great players, not Hall of Famers.

Ron Santo. I've never understood why he isn't there. I've never heard a solid argument to keep him out.

Maris doesn't deserve to be there at all. His 1961 season was great, and that season is commemorated in the Hall. But his career wasn't one of the best in his era. You need more than a couple good years.

I'd say Jim Rice. He was rookie of the year, top 5 in MVP voting 6 times, an 8 time All Star, and one of the more feared players of his time. Steve Garvey is right there behind him though, as is Keith Hernandez.

Rice, Hernandez and Garvey all had comparable stats. Reggie Jackson is in with a lifetime BA of 30 points less than these three. Homers seem to count for more.
