If you are booking a flight into Chicago, and you are coming from a smaller city that isn't served by all the major airlines, don't forget to checkout that airlines that fly into Milwaukee, too.

From Wilmette, Mitchell Field in Milwaukee is only about a 70 minute drive, and it's a lot less crowded than O'Hare.

Some of the discount carriers fly to Milwaukee but not Chicago, so you might find a cheaper flight.

Chicago O'Hare (ORD) is the closest 20 minutes by cab.

Mitchell in Milwaukee is a possibility - it is connected to Amtrak, and you can take a train south to the Glenview Station. There's about 8 trips per day.

Can't believe no one mentioned MIDWAY! MDW is on the south side of Chicago, and on the Orange Line of the El. You can take a train from the terminal to downtown, and transfer to the Purple Line at the library station. End of the line is Linden Street station in Wilmette.
