I went to the fish store yesterday, and bought four fish. I did some research and found out that all the fish I have are not s posed to have a large amount of open space in the tank. I don't have time to go back to the pet store and get items for the tank, so I was wondering if there are any items you can find outside or inside that make easy house or such for fish. Also, I have a pregnant fish due soon( a silver molly) and I read about putting marbles in the bottom of the tank for the eggs. I only have like 9 marbles, and i don't have enough for the fish. What is another thing i can do to save at least 20 babies from not being eaten? and what r some things i can put in my fish tank?

No need to worry, even if your fish do need some cover, they can wait for a few days without harm at all. Most houssehold items aren't a good idea because you can't be sure they are made of safe materials. Of course, clean glass or ceramic items that are food safe are ok for your tank.
I would also suggest your NEVER add plants form the yard to a tank. 1. They will die, they are terrestial plants not aquatic plants. 2. no telling what fertilizers or other chemicals are on them that will kill your fish.
The only real way to save at least 20 babies from your molly will be to get a separate tank witha heater and sponge filter and put tons of plants (either fake or real). Allow your momma fish to have the babies in that tank and then remove her once she's done. Breeder nets are ok for the babies for a day or two, but they will not live and grow in such a small little space.

Using chemicals to remove or lower ammonia levels in a fish tank does more harm than good Just plain old fashioned partial water changes using a conditioner if you use tap If your tank is still cycling do small partial water changes daily to keep the levels as low as possible until the tank is established and stable Feed less and don't replace or rinse your filter media under tap water

You can put cups or jars, sticks, glass trinkets or other hollow things in the fish tank to take up space. Instead of marbles you can put in small rocks about the size of a marble or when they are born you can put them in another fish tank. I did this with guppies. What i did was put the pregnant fish in a separate fish tank and when she gave birth I put her back in with the other fish so the baby guppies wouldn't get eaten you should try this it really helped me.

Pretty much anything can go in there as long as it's properly disinfected before hand. Do do that simply boil the item in hot water for a few minutes, and DO NOT USE SOAP...just plain hot water. The soap residue can get into the water and kill the fish. Try picking up some pebbles/rocks from outside and boil them until they're clean!

Um.. I definitely would NOT put toys in your tank as one poster mentioned because many plastics are toxic to fish, and metals can mess up your water, rust, and basically cause all kinds problems for your tank.
Glass items such as marbles, figurines or vases are perfectly OK to put in your tank as long as they are not painted, dyed or decorated with metal or plastic.
Most rocks from your backyard are OK to put in a tank. You can test to see if a rock is OK for your tank by submerging it in vinegar. If it doesn't bubble its most likely OK to put in your tank.
Driftwood is normally OK to put in a tank, but it takes alot of preparation beforehand. I don't have the time to get into the process right now... but your can research it on the internet.. there's lots of info about driftwood for tanks.
PVC pipes are tank safe, and make good hiding places for fish. You can silicone rocks onto a short length of PVC piping to make a nice cheap little cave for your fish.

Theres nothing you can really put in the fish tank from around the home as it may be toxic and you CANT put anything from outside ither, grass, plants etc, And the mollies will not lay eggs, THEY WILL HAVE LIVE BABIES, So you will have tiny mollies, The marbles wil be ok to add just wash them well not wash, rinse them under water and the babies will fall into them and be protected, And Plastics plants are good aswell but you need to get them from a pet store.

::::::::::::::::::::::THOSE THINGS YOU PUT OVER THE SIDE OF THE TANK OR A BREEDER BOX CAN STRESS THE FISH OUT AND IT MAY DIE,

I have mice. And a good thing to do is to get a tea cup, chip it with a hammer [more like crack it] And if it cracks completely in half, glue it back together.
Then place it upside down in the tank.

there's a few examples of what i mean on that website.

Toy cars, little pots, rocks from your garden (clean them off really well first), Little fake plants (make sure they aren't dusty), It depends on how big your aquarium is. mini statues, lots of stuff like that!!! Make sure to clean them all off first. Marbles are good too. Hope this helped!
