First off this has nothing to do with whether ATI or nVidia is better. It has to do with DVI (its a laptop after all). It has to do with which card has the better performance, and it is easily the 8600M GT. It is an entire generation newer, is faster, and is DirectX 10 as opposed to DirectX 9.

Both are good cards. If you're running an Intel machine, Nvidia works best. ATI was reciently purchased by AMD, so ATI Cards work best with AMD.

to get more Bang! for you buck, get the ATI X1800 or GeForce 8800 cards. The 800 means that they're running a 256bit memory interface. So games will run alot smoother and the card will be more compatible for newer games that take alot of processing power. So in the long run you'll be saving money instead of buying video cards every couple of years.

I'd go with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM

NVIDIA has always treated me good, and it's always been great mobile.

The radeon series is good, but I've had some issues with it.

Unless you NEED the dual link DVI, but it's not that great.

I just bought a new computer and (of course) video card myself, and while I don't know about those two cards specifically, I will say that Tom's hardware probably has good articles on both of those. I prefer nvidia because I had trouble an ati card before, so I'm a bit biased.

When it comes down to two cards, read user reviews, prices, and decide which one is best for you.
