I want every kid in Canada from coast to coast to coast (yes we have 3 of them) to have access to quality education reguardless of the Province or Territory they come from -
I want every last citezen of Canada to have acess to health care - no money required if you are sick you get help end of story
How is that bad ?
And I expect the governments of this land to make every effort to make that happen -

There is unuversal health and education in Canada -
That is not the question - When I mention it a lot of Americans seem to react as if IO had just eaten a child in front of them -
So the question is how is this bad ? - Not the child eating part the health and education part

How is it bad - it will demonstrate just how bad the US is at providing for it's citizens when you achieve it while we are going backwards (there are schools where you are more likely to wind up in prison than college here and the government blame the kids who go to those schools)

Seeing I am of Canadian ancestry, but live close to the border in the USA I will answer this question.
The problem with these programs is that someone has to pay for them. While you can try to tax the rich as much as you like, its not going to cover all the costs. You are going to have to dip into the pockets of the middle class, who make up the majority of the electorate in the United States and Canada.
Its a historical fluke if you know the political history of the United States and Canada that Canada has national health care while the United States does not considering from an economic point of view, Canada leaned more to the right than the United States until the 1960s.
Unless you have an all powerful government, you are never going to have the utopian services you dream of because there is no way to pay for them. I rather pay my own way than have an all powerful state do it for me.

It's a wonderful idea. But the money that is spent comes from all of our taxes. Where the problem lies is with the people who take advantage of the system, with all sorts of unneccesary medical attention and procedures that cause the cost to go up - meaning that everyone has to pay more and more. Although I believe that it should cover a lot more than it does, I think that a lot of elective medical care should be payed for privately. As for the education, I totally agree.

Either way, they will pay for it though taxes.
My opinion is that the reason that is not happening in the US is because there is just not enough support for it, not enough money, and right now focus is on the war.
If you give out free health care, there will be tons and tons of people who will abuse it.
Free health car should be for major illness. Not for petty colds.
As for free education. I had no idea that Canada did not give that >.>
I suggest join a group, and get your voice out there.

I hope it all happens, but assembly line medicine can be lacking when it comes to getting the right specialist to do the job! Do Canadians have a Surgeon General or a cabinet level education commissioner?

Nothing bad at all, But there's a big difference between everyone having "access" to quality healthcare, and an inflated government bureaucracy forcing every citizen to have whatever quality of helathcare they decide you deserve.

I'm not Canadian, but your question is what many liberal socialist Democrats ask here in America.
The answer is BIGGER government. If you want all of these conveniences, you are going to pay more taxes and jump through more government bureaucracy than there already is. This opens a "pandora's box" of more government programs that will soak the people of their money.
Socialism ultimately leads to fascism. Trust me, you don't want it. Use your own private healthcare and education. Don't rely on your government to provide it for you.

And how exactly do you expect this to be paid for? The money would come from taxes, high taxes. So it wouldnt really be fan education or health care with "no money required".

No government can do what private industry does better, quicker, more cost effectively. Competition keeps the price down and the quality high. If the government is handing you something--you can count on it to be crap.

Dang, you have high expectations. I thought that you Canucks already had nationalized health care.
And as far as education, it is only as good as the kids that society sends to school. If the parents are trash, you can't expect a quality education.
