Yes, I do. The gym is for working out/developing a healthier lifestyle. Its not meant to be a hook up spot.

It depends on the gym and how you do it. I go to a college rec center, where it wouldn't be cool to just come right out with it, though I've been hit on myself a few times after a casual conversation. And, a few times in the sauna, but that's usually guys just looking for some fun. Just don't get caught staring at someone in the locker room or showers!
I used to go to a health club with an older and less in-shape (relatively speaking) clientele, and people were definitely more open about it... though the "scenery" is a lot better in a weight room packed with college guys!

Probably not...if the gym you go to is all-gay, or gay-friendly at the very least. Some places can expell you and cancel your membership if you happen to hit on the wrong dude, and he complains to the management. So you better have damn good 'gaydar' before you proceed. It's probably best to proceed with caution, especially these days. The best kind of guy will be the ones who take you up on your offer. Next comes the guys, gay or straight, who might not be into you, but will thank you and take your 'offer' as a compliment. The worst kind? The kind who get you kicked out of the gym, or even worse, might be waiting for you with a couple of fag-bashin' buddies outside. Just use common sense when you do it, and happy hunting!

No, at least you get to check out some of the goods, before buying! It might get you in contact with guys who are looking for sexual, rather than romantic relationships though.
Otherwise, it could use allot of energy fruitlessly, unless you're at a somewhat gay gym. There's nothing like conservation of energy, and perhaps targeting your efforts somewhere where a more predominantly gay crowd hangout.
I've met guys at gyms, and during sports and other similar stuff. And I've met some straight friends this way too, I don't always come-out to them as gay though. I'm generally not that out in general, so this suits me. It's a good place to meet guys who are into similar stuff as you, and you may share other interests in common, like interests in other fitness and sports stuff.
Go for it, just be aware that you may be rejected, by some straight guys who are wary in general of guys hitting on them.

If it works for you then go for it. Just make sure that the one you are trying to hit on doesn't wind up hitting you.

I don't mind if someone asks for my number but NOT if I am showering or nude - actually not in the locker room or shower area at ALL. In the main part of hte gym - when I am dressed is fine.

I don't know if I would call it stupid. It certainly is risky, though.
I guess if I saw someone interesting at my gym, I would just start talking to him and then see where that goes.
