Its in the city of Detroit. I know its the 17000 block. My first idea was to check the online city assessors site, but no go.

try to reach that house by phone, ask directions,and go to the nearest county or police command post.

If you know the street and the numbers of the houses near it or next to it, you can go to the tax assessors office and look up on the maps and find the house on the plat map and get the number that way.
Or, if you can find the house numbers on either side of it, guess. LOL Example: 1214 Main St, and 1218 Main St. on either side of it and it's in between, it must be 1216. Typically, one side of street will be odd numbers, and the other side even house numbers.

It depends. I know that NJ has a website (listed below), that you can use to find tax information, but fundamentally, you can also put in just a street (and not a street number), to get a listing of all houses on the street.
