Usually not, although it depends on different certifications in different states. A doctor is somebody who either has an M.D. or a Ph.D., although only the former makes you a medical doctor. Therapists usually have M.A. (Master of Arts) or M.S.W. (Master of Social Work) degrees. Furthermore, their certification doesn't allow for them to prescribe medication, so if you need a prescription, you will need to see a Psychiatrist or some other medical doctor.

You are if you have a PhD. or PsyD. I work in a treatment facility, and the Psychologists are referred to as Doctor.
In most places Psychologists cannot prescribe medications, but in New Mexico an the Army, there are some Psychologists with prescription privileges. There is currently a move for psychologists to be able to prescribe medications. However, this would require many of them to have more training, as in general, psychologists are not trained in this aspect of treatment.

To be factually considered a doctor, you must have a doctorate degree. For a therapist (I'm assuming psychologist?) Ph.D. or Psy. D. And still...many M.D.s and D.O.s would not give as much weight to calling them doctors as they would themselves.

Any one who has completed a doctorate program earns the title of Doctor...Dr of psychology, Dr of philosophy, Dr of mathematics, etc but that is no where near the same as a doctor of medicine. It just means they finished the doctorate program and have earned that title

NO defiantly not. Medical doctors deal with very different problems in very different way. I cannot prescribe any medicines - not even self administered. I may suggest sometimes but that is the most.
