lol, dont do any stupid v8 swaps into it, you wouldnt wanna ruin the car would you? I'd say go with the racing beat option. They make very nice exhaust systems, very high quality and they sound great. Not to loud, not to ricey, and they look great. I would also go with headers. That will really make your 8 scream, however the headers probably arent smog legal, (if youre in CA) so i wouldnt do headers unless youre planning on installing them yourself. An intake would also be nice, however it isnt going to affect the sound of your car that much, it will be barely noticeable. The RX-8 is never going to sound like a V8, if thats what youre aiming for....but if you want to make it sound and perform better their are plenty of good options, Borla, magnaflow, racing beat etc...if you want a deeper tone, I'd go with a borla exhaust, but for me, I'd probably get Racing Beat. Check youtube, streetfire etc for RX-8 exhaust videos, i kno they have them on there; then make the decision yourself.

Nothing cheap. I've never owned a Mazda (my little bro has a protege), and I've sure as hell haven't owned a rotary, but I would think that three simple (doesn't = cheap) bolt ons should change your exhaust tone.
1. Air induction. Whether it be a cold air system or a simple K&N drop in filter, this will defintely change the way your engine and exhaust sound from stock. And if designed for your car, should help with performance too.
2. Headers. Probably the most expensive of the options, if not for the cost of the parts, the labor involved in installing them. Free flow headers would definitely make your engine roar, and free up some constricted horsepower at the expense of the enviornment and some gas mileage.
3. Exhaust. If I remember correctly, RX-8s have dual pipes, so thats not going to be cheap either unless you do your shopping at Autozone. If you spend the money on a system made for your car vs going with some generic stuff, you should see performance gains and even better sound. In my experience, the RX8 Renesis is as deep sounding as the older RX7 powerplants, but you could defintely boom the street with the right setup. Just watch the diameter of the pipes; too large will give a great sound, but at the expense of backpressure and torque. You should research this; I don't have much experience with Mazda rotarys other than driving my neighbors 13B powered FC a couple of times.
Hope that helps.
From Racingbeat.com 's website:
"Utilizing our in-house dyno test facilities, the Racing Beat engineering staff has undertaken exhaust system extensive testing with the RX-8 Renesis engine. Our research has found that simply adding a large-diameter, "straight-through" muffler is very loud, and power gains are only modest. We focused our development efforts on optimizing the power output, while maintaining a moderate, but aggressive exhaust tone.
Based upon our initial test sessions, it appeared that the Mazda engineers did not leave much "untapped" horsepower behind in the stock exhaust system. Although it appears there might be modest power gains available from a "cat-back" exhaust system, be wary of big horsepower claims from any aftermarket exhaust system.
Our testing has provided the following results:
Stock production engine - with muffler removed +5 HP
Stock production engine - with RB muffler + 3.5 HP
Stock production engine - with aftermarket system "A" muffler + 3.5 HP
Stock production engine - with aftermarket system "B" muffler + -1.5 HP"

Depends. What year is it and did you already update the exhaust. If not you can always get a Borla Exhaust cat back exhaust and Headers. They are very throaty instead of having the rice burner sound. Its a little more pricey, but it will last a lifetime. It is made out of T-304 Stainless Steel . Check out the website. You might be able to find better prices on other discount websites. I have the adjustable cat back system on my 98 Camaro and it sounds mean. I must say it is loud and is a head turner. Got to love how you can adjust it from almost having a straight pipe system to all the exhaust flowing through the muffler for emission tests. It only takes me about 10 minutes to adjust the flow.

If your looking to spend some money on it i would get a new engine. But if you want it cheep for about $40 or $50 bucks you can get a glass-pack exhaust and that will make it sound alright.

Upgrade your exhaust. Do a CAI if you have extra cash laying around, but the exhaust should do the trick.
