For a change of pace (a bit more literary value some would say) try Lilith's Brood by Octavia E. Butler or anything by her. She has a great perspective on woman’s roles presented in a sci-fi/fantasy genre.

It's about a former teen pop star. When she was younger she wanted to sing more serious ones I think, she gained weight and the label company dropped her and she was dating another teen celebity who's father owned the label company (i think) and he did not stick up for her and lbroke up with her)
Now years later she works at a college in NY she mainly is the corridor counselor and everything is cool until girls begin to get murdered, and now she (Heather I think) must solve the cases, but her ex boyfriend comes back into her life, but she has a crush on his older brother (who she lives upstairs from and does his taxes for him) Her ex boyfriend still has feelings for her, so as she struggles in her personal life, all these girls are getting murdered.
