ok so we have a lot of people who call for the banning of Harry Potter for it's supposed witchcraft implications. many calling fortune tellers and others are against the Bible. didn't Solomon go to a seer or fortune teller, weren't many of the Hebrews become seers and dream tellers or fortune tellers. I am not saying they practiced any witchcraft but by the edicts I am hearing on this debate they should have been thrown out as witches. if you don't want your kids reading the books. ok. why are you telling everyone else they can't read it as well? the Hebrews were among the Egyptians but didn't try to convert them. they were among the romans but weren't trying to convert them either. they just lived their life and showed what and how their life was filled letting others ask to learn not throwing it down their throats.
Do I have this wrong or should I put some quotes from the Bible on here that says to show not force others how to live?

Any rational person would realize that Harry Potter is a fantasy. It does not promote witchcraft. Yet those fanatics that cry foul are willing to shove their beliefs down our throats. They are as bad as Muslim fanatics and they should be treated as such.

Oy vay! I am a Christain, and I LOOOVE Harry Potter. I understand that some people think that it is bad because it is about witchcraft (which I agree is wrong), but these people don't even give the books a chance. If they did, they would realize that the books are just that, books. I would never in a million years read the books if they were about actual witchcraft, you know, with the rituals and such, but I mean, come on...its 13 year olds brandishing sticks! Seriously, they have wands, people, wands! That's what illusionists who call themselves magicians use, and if you are afraid that reading a book about teenagers with sticks will be detrimental to your faith, your faith obviously is not strong enough.
People need to stop judging things before they know anything about them...

--My bible-thumping friend's mom burned her daughters HP books, and claimed she saw demons rising from the smoke...only friggin psychotic people see demons in smoke...or stoned people.--

Truth is that the Bible explicitly forbids witchcraft and sorcery. Yes, there are people in the Bible that did it anyway, but without exception they were either disobeying God and/or were punished for it.

That said, it is silly of people to freak out about Harry Potter anyway. It is JUST A BOOK! It is a work of FICTION!!! The Christians who don't like Harry Potter are generally ignorant of Harry Potter and often of the Bible, too. That said, I'm a southern Baptist myself, and the parents in my sunday school class exchange Potter books and dvds, so it is not ALL religious people who are against Harry Potter.

I, for one, am for just about anything that gets kids reading. It's just a book, for crying out loud! If your kids start flying around on broomsticks, then you've got a problem, but that problem is you. Time to get visit a shrink when that happens. :-)

The Harry Potter Series has encouraged millions and millions of children and adults to READ. That is a good thing.

If religious people don't want to read the books then DON'T it's just that simple.

This is the reason it is not wise to have Religion in Schools or Government because the beliefs of a few are inflicted on everyone.

This actually makes me laugh, many of these people that call for banning HP have not actually read the books and are making assumptions (as well as making an *** of themselves). My friend recently told me that he has never read a HP book and never will because it contains witchcraft and conflicts with his religion. PISHPOSH. They're forcing beliefs on others when they haven't even read the book for themselves.

I think this is ridiculous and pathetic that our society has come to this. Harry Potter is an amazing set of books and is labeled as FANTASY. Even the biggest die-hard fans will admit it's not real and is simply a figment of imagination. These people that want to ban HP should really read the book for themselves first and realizes that HP relates to life and morals, and is not forcing children to convert to witchcraft.

A work of fiction,no need to start banning books we'll be back in the dark ages.If you don't want yourself or your child to read it that's fine its your choice, now stop trying to make my choice for me!!!!.It has nothing to do with religon, they are simply intresting books to read and children who will learn to read because of them, well thats the silver lining, because thats happening.A great thing, wouldn't you agree?

If a religion is so weak in its followers that they are frightened by a work of plain but brilliantly written fiction, then that religion is deeply in trouble
