When Beckham was captain, he got heavily criticised--warranted or not--for not being a good player. Now that he's stepped down and recalled to the squad, he's suddenly performed better than everyone else expected. Many say he's given a sense of stability and leadership now that he's back.
Was Beckham just going through a rough patch and retired too early, or is it better for the squad to have John Terry as captain, and Becks as just another talent in the squad?
I love Becks dearly with his past performances, but I honestly think it's getting too overhyped now, to the point that other players just as able are overshadowed, e.g. Steven Gerrard, John Terry.

Beckham is definitely overhyped. That puts pressure on him and his team. So when he doesnt put on a great performance people get mad at him. For example in America he's seen as a soccer god for some reason but for everyone else hes basically just above average.
Becks should still play for England, but I believe John Terry makes a much much better captain than him in the squad.

Beckham is both overrated and underrated. Overrated by people who nothing about soccer because they see his face all the time and assume he is the greatest. Underrated by true soccer fans because they get annoyed that he gets all the attention when he isn’t one of the top players in the league. I think he is a great right winger in the midfielder (clearly not for his pace but for his ball delivery) and should definitely be part of Englands squad. Lennon is too young and I don’t think SWP is good enough.
Not saying he is one of the top 10 players in the world, but he still quite good.
Don’t think he should be captain though because of the circus that can sometimes follow him. Terry was a good choice…if not him, then Gerrard.
