I like navy blue and dark, dark brown eyeshadow for my brown eyes. Sometimes I mix the two.

You're lucky! Almost any color of eyeshadow can go well with brown or hazel eyes. You can pull off colors that blue and green-eyed people can't! Woo-hoo! Metallic eyeshadows like silver and gold are really in right now. They'll match perfectly with your eyes, too! Try doing the "Hilary Duff" look by applying it around your eyes and especially in the corners. You''ll look great!

I am pretty traditional, so if you are wanting to hear blue or purple or something outrageous, you picked the wrong reply to answer. (smile)
I have hazel eyes, and I start with an off-while pealized color made by Loreal from the bone to the brow. Then, I use a copperish brown on the lid, and finish with a darker brown where the crease/socket bone/outer corner of your eye all connect. (I hope that made sense! LOL)

Well I'm on the same boat with you. For thwe longest time I didnt know much about what colors would lokk good on me.
Well if you want your eyes to pop either wear violet purple, like a true dark purple. Or teal, of any brand. The greener the better.

I think a very, very natural shade of green and a brown together, use the green on the inside corners and lid of your eyes and use the brown for the outside creases and a bit on your lower lid, thats if you really want to bring out the hazel!

I have brown eyes and olive skin. I have been using either a white pearl color or gold, mostly depending on my mood. You should only wear these lighter shades with a dark eyeliner, otherwise, it will make your eyes look smaller. I like to taper off my liquid liner, very retro.

I'd say it depends on what color clothes you are wearing at the time, it's best to slightly match or cooridinate with your clothes....
But something that I think looks good with brown eyes would be "smoky" colors, almost a grey, dark powdery blue or even a light powdery fuscia...Or as someone else said "earth tones" are good....

Try lavender purple and cappicino brownish/tans. They really make hazel eyes pop!!
Try those color kits you see in the makeup isle. I think the brand is Maybelline. They have eyeshadow kits for all eye colors.

It really depends on your skintone and whether you have warm, neutral, or cool undertones.
Since you have brown eyes I would guess that you have warm undertones so you would stick with browns, golds, greens, coppers, etc.
Hope this helps!
