I know the show your talking about. I am ADDICTED TOOO! Oh my goddess! I wanna know if its gonna hit the fan now that barb is busted! I hope they did a good job so that it goes on to season 3. I love Nikki and cant wait to see what she gets started this time! LOL
Now anyhow. I wouldnt want to do it myself. I like having my man all to myself. In the way they present it on the show it would be ok for other people though.
BUT you have to remember, in real life most of the people doing it are not like Bill, Barb, Niki and Margene. Most of them are more like the compound....more like Roman and Rhonda. Which is horrible!
Its not the plural marriage that is a problem its the fact that these people are seperated into their own "island" whifch allows for the abuse. The abuse is the problem and aweful.
If it was like the show though...it would be ok between consenting adults.

I think it is wrong on so many levels.

Legally, it's against the law.

Socially, it causes a flood of issues from inheritance to child support and disability. Is the husband entitled to parental leaves every time he/she has a child from his many wives? How to protect the rights of the many children in the household - alimony, child support? If the husband dies, how to determine the priority structure in inheritance?

Morally, I think it is wrong. Marriage signifies a commitment between one man and one woman and is meant to be exclusive. That's why cheating in marriage is socially and, until recently, legally was considered a much more serious offense than cheating in any other relationship.

Religious tenets also suggest that marriage is the holiest of unions, a union before God. It is not to be taken lightly and represents a lifetime partnership. With polygamy, if you get bored with your wife, just find yourself another one. There is a reason all faiths are strongly opposed to polygamy and that reason it, it goes against the basic foundations of our faith.

Finally, is polygamy to be allowed both for men and women? Why should women be forbidden to have multiple husbands if men can? What about children from the marriages - whose would they be?

Actually I find the idea fasinating. As a working mom I would have welcomed another woman in the home to help out since my ex husband never did. After working 14 hours a day you don't want to come home and put in another 14 hours cooking and cleaning. Having someone to help would have been great. On the other hand I'm not one to share sex so that would be the only drawback to the situation for me. But I have no intentions of ever getting married again, whether in a polygamus one or not.

I think the answers are far more interesting than your question. What do you think about it? Most of your respondents are socially programed by the standard christian American point of view and lack the ability to look at the idea of polygamy with much sense of separation from the beliefs of others. I believe at the biological level, as a species, men are hard wired by nature with the desire to spread their seed far and wide and woman are hard wired to find a protector to provide for them during pregnancy and early childhood years. It all boils down to personal preference in present society. Polygamy can be legal, for those who don't are ignorant in this regard, through common law marriage, until someone gets congress to change the laws.

I think it depends on the type of Polygamy. If it is the FLDS where they have 11 year old girls marrying 50 year old men, then I am fully against it. However, if it is between 2 consenting adults who want to live that way, then it is their choice. I also think that it should work both ways too. Not just for the men.

I love that show too.

The males of all species have been polygamous since the first two cells differentiated. About 1000 years ago this upstart religion said you had to be monogamous under threat of being boiled in oil. Monogamy is un-natural. It will not and does not work. I am all for it, I just haven't convinced my wife yet.

Woman can be very catty and back stabbing.
Being out numbered by them is just stupid.
Two or more wives what a joke.

Gateway to incestuous relationships and inbreeding. Not too mention radical fundamentalism. There is a problem also with proponents owning up to the 'wrongness' of it. Instead, there is always an out: It was OK then, but not now. It was never RIGHT!

I think it might be a lot of fun if the people involved are into it, but I also see it as being a higher risk for jealousy and fighting.
