Hello, I'm 10 weeks pregnant and I don't drink enough water. I take my prenatal vitimans daily, but I'm worried that I could harm my baby if I'm not drinking enough water. I'm lucky if I drink 20oz. I feel like I'm going to gag when I drink water. I do drink OJ and milk with my cereal, but those are about the only other liquids I drink. Can anybody reccomend something to help me out. Thanks

Thank you all for the great advice. I'm going to buy me some lemons and try to drink water that way.

It is essential to keep yourself hydrated during your pregnancy. Pregnant women who do not get enough water during their pregnancy can experience early labor and even miscarriage.

Personally, I like water, but if you just can't stand to drink it, just remember that all those fruit juices and sports drinks can count toward it. But, any good obstetrician will tell you that water, by itself, is essential to the good health of you and of your baby.

As an added bonus, after you have your baby, keeping up drinking all that water (eight glasses of eight fluid ounces each) will help you to lose weight! It'll also help you keep up a good supply of breast milk, if you choose to breastfeed your baby.

Absolutely drink water. Use flavored powders or a spritz of lemon or lime if you must to get the water down, but do drink as much water as you can. As one of those who answered put it, if you can't do it for yourself, do it for the health of your baby.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm not pregnant (at least I don't think) but have always been easily dehydrated. I have been told so many times to drink more water but it is a lot harder then it seems. There is something about drinking it that makes me what to gag. It's just so blah and not appealing. I too drink OJ and milk but really missing out on the water thing. There are so many perks to drinking a lot of water but especially while pregnant, so I understand your concern. I have tried lemon juice but it just tasted bitter to me and couldn't drink that either. I like some of the suggestions the people above gave, like vitamin water (my brother drinks that when racing BMX to stay hydrated), flavors for water and even like the idea of slicing a lime to give the water a little something.
Well, with all the suggestions you have now and some I'm sure you will continue to get I hope you find something that works for you.
Congrats on the baby!
Good luck.

Although water is the best way to hydrate your body, you can also drink other liquids. You also get fluids from fruits and vegetables. If you don't like the taste of water, try putting a lemon wedge in it. I find I drink much, much more water that way. I also do not like really sweet drinks, so I water down my juice. I only put about 1/4 or 1/3 juice and the rest water. Also, stay away from sodas - not only for the caffeine, but for the sodium too. Caffeine and sodium (salt) will dehydrate your body. You will know when you are not fully hydrated because your urine will be yellow. When you are fully hydrated it should be very light yellow or almost clear.

I love water, and have always loved it, but it does not taste good in some places I have been. Our family laughed at us when we came back from the West Coast with bottled water, and I carried water to Florida when we went, and Myrtle Beach, S.C. I would say I drink more than eight glasses a day. Alcohol affects me adversely and dries me up so I want more water. I do not have sugar diabetes, though. I guess I got into the habit when I was little because we were not allowed to drink coffee or tea, and water and Kool Aid were about the only things we had besides milk, and never chocolate milk.

Have you tried something like lemonade, fruit water, or other drinks that are mostly water? As long as you do not develop gestational diabetes there is no problem with adding a little flavor to your water. But yes, it is extremely important that you at least triple the amount of water you are currently drinking. Not getting enough water could cause you to become dehydrated, which can affect the amount of amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby. Good luck.

First of all, Congratulations! I was having trouble drinking enough water and I have found two small tricks that help me to get it down. I first always add fruit to my water to help give it flavor. Since you like orange juice add a slice of orange or lemon. Second, I always try and have it next to me at all times this helps to make it like a habit and less like a chore. I actually invested in a bedside pitched with cup from Pier 1 and I leave that by my desk at work. This helps because I don’t have to go and get a new cup of water every hour and it looks inviting. Good luck with your pregnancy and remember that drinking water is not only good for your baby and your heath but studies have show that it can improve the health of your skin and can reduce break outs by getting rid of toxins in your body. Good luck!

I hate water too. I bought the 16.9 oz bottles of bottled water, I think it tastes better. I leave them in the fridge so they are nice and cold and they aren't so big that they will be warm and gross before I finish them.

I also sometimes cut a lemon and squeeze some juice into it. It makes it taste nice (if you like citrus) and lemon juice is a diaretic so it will help you from retaining too much water. I was using Crystal Lite (you know the single packets) but they have artificial sweetener and so I don't do that anymore.

Good luck. Drinking plenty of water will help assist in #2. Not much is worse than being constipated while you are pregnant.

I hate water too! However, my OB explained that I can actually have contractions from being dehydrated! I live in Las Vegas so, with the heat I hafta drink it! I like the Vitamin Water, comes in all kinds of flavors. Also, I squeeze either a lemon or lime in plain water and it helps bigtime!
Congrats on the baby!
Very Best Wishes!

drinking water is not only good for the baby, it is also good for you down the road, it will prevent your body from swallowing, have you heard or saw pregnant women before and they were complaining from pain in their legs, that because they are not drinking water a lot, trust me it is worth it when you drink water 8 cups per day you are not going to have breast sore. no swallowing in your body, and if you do not drink water eat watermelon, am not sure what kind of fruit will give you water, but try to search it and find out, maybe this will help some. take care and good luck.

I can't stand drinking water either, but Fruit 2 O is really tasty. It's fruit flavored water that comes in strawberry, lemon, grape and a few other flavors and tastes really good when it's right out of the fridge. Also, after my first was born, I went to Weight Watchers and one of the tips they gave to people who didn't like water was to freeze tiny slices of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, etc.) into ice cubes so when the ice melts, your water gets a little hint of that flavor.
