You don't FOIL on these; you just use the distributive property.

1) -2x^2y^4+4xy^5
2) -3a^6b^3-3a^5b^4

FOIL (First, Inside, Outside, Last) is used only for multplying binomials. Those examples are just one binomial multiplied by an outside term.

but for those, you just need to multiply the like terms, giving:
(-2x^2y^4 + 4xy^5)
and
(-3a^6b^3 - 3a^5b^4)

FOILing is the order of multiplication when you have two factors such as (x+a)(kx+b), a,b and k are constants. F: (x)(kx) O: (x)(b) I: (a)(kx) and
L: (a)(b).

That said, the problems are not FOIL-types. The term in front of the ( ) multiplies EACH term inside the ( ).
